Losing finger and toenails

I've been on Afinitor for 18 months and have lost one big toenail, and have started losing the other one. All of my fingernails are also separating - most are about halfway. Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone have any success in treating this. I'm taking biotin but have not used a nail strengthener regularly treating cuticles as I'm reading is recommended online today. Thanks and thoughts and prayers for all of my friends here on this site!

Yes Afinitor made lose two fingernails two toe nails.

My salon girl would make a gel nail to cover until it grew back in. Now since we are in I just let them grow in.

My toenails seem to grow debris under them and get pushed up. I just keep cutting until they grow clean. My foot doctor tells me to come in and she cuts and cleans toenails of debris from chemo.

It is so frustrating what we go through with the cancer yet look so good to others.

When asked by my kids I say I'm good what's new with you.😂😂😂

Thank you for the reply! I'm not glad you are also going through this, but at least we know we aren't alone in these things. I know what you mean about people not knowing what we go through. I keep it to the basics, but they have no idea ;)

My podiatrist has also been trimming my nail until now it's totally bare. The debris issue is a tough one - always trying to get my nails cleaned out. Since all of my fingernails are about half gone, I'm not sure what it's going to be like if I actually lose them all. I'll keep taking my biotin and putting on nail strengthener & cuticle oil - and hope that helps!

Best to you!

Same thing happneded to my fingernails. I kept them polished so that atleast when the old part sluffed off, the skin underneath the part that came off was not too tender. It does not hurt but not the best fashion statement either. I guess since we are all in quarintine, it does not matter as much.

I've had the same issue too, however with the help of my manicurist, no one knows how terrible my big toe nails are until one of them falls off!!! I've been wearing acrylic over them for years!!! I treat my fingernails to monthly SNS. With the current shelter in place, my nails and toes look horrible. I cannot wait for my next appointment on May 9!!! Good luck and God bless!
