Tumor markers swinging wildly.

I started Halaven in September. my tumor markers went from 1498 to 190. Then, last month, they were 400. Had cat scan of my chest, pelvis, and abdomen. Everything was stable. My onc said that maybe I had an "inner inflammation." Has anyone had this happen?

I saw my oncologist today and my markers are up

I’ve just changed treatment this month and she said that sometimes that increases them

She’s trying to avoid doing markers especially for her gynaecology patients...she said I haven’t to obsess over them and scans are the best way to monitor disease

I have to agree with Barb. My onc relies on scans.

Tumor markers are very reliable for some patients, and not at all for others. Have you been sick recently with the flu or anything? Perhaps that could have caused them to rise? If your oncologist feels confident in your scans, I think that’s a good sign. Tumor markers are only one small piece of a larger puzzle.
