Advice please?

Can someone please tell me why tumour markers fluctuate? I can’t seem to find an answer xx

I was told that a lot of things affect them such as having a cold or inflammation etc

Really well thank you. Bone scan Friday so nervous about that. Always the same with scans x

My mum has her ct scan 8th of next month so yeah I get you 100% very nervous she’s doing so well on taxol her tumour markers are down to 249 as of today from 1861 her last scan was good so I’m hoping the same again just this up and down thing is worrying me but that’s me I love to worry haha so pleased your doing well xxx

It is just it’s been fluctuating going up and down slightly between 240 270ish one week it seems to go up and the next down x

How is your mum getting on?

Tumour markers are not reliable and in some people, like myself, they cannot be used as a tool to assess progression/remission. Mine have been high when the scans show significant remission. Its the scan results which give the real picture along with physical assessment.

It is concerning as mine are on the rise. My markers a year ago kept creeping up so my Doctor kept doing scans til they showed a sign of a problem. It’s how she located the MBC in my Fallopian tube. I am on Ibrance and Letrozole which initially caused markers to go down now they are going up. Makes me nervous!
