Hello everyone. Do any of you know the difference between Omega 3 and Omega 7 and which is better of the two? Thanks!

Hello everyone. Do any of you know the difference between Omega 3 and Omega 7 and which is better of the two? Thanks!

Hi Maria,
I would like the answer to that question too! I have both. I take a vegan omega 3 supplement from Cytoplan (as I don't eat fish and wouldn't be able to stomach the fish supplements) but my integrative doctor recommended I buy omega 7, which I did. After I have finished my vegan omega 3 capsules I will start taking the omega 7 as I just looked at the pack details and it contains omega 3,6,7 and 9.

So your integrative doctor recommended Omega 7 over Omega 3? Did he give a reason why? What is Omega 3 good for anyway? Lowering cholesterol?
The brand I bought has sea buckthorn oil (SBA24) which contains omega 3, 6,7, and 9. It also contains tocopherols and tocotrienols. When I had my cholesterol checked a while ago it was perfectly normal, so I know that's not the problem. I think my omega 3 was low though (I'd have to check my private blood test results again) as I don't eat seafood. So there may have been a deficiency there. I'll ask him at my next appointment.
Thanks Sophie. Sandra replied to my question too and you have probably read her reply on what Omega 3 and 7 are for. She said that Omega 6 and 9 don’t really do anything so I wonder if taking just Omega 3 and 7 is better and if there are supplements that contain just those 2.
You're welcome. No, I've not read Sandra's response yet. I have been out all evening. I will go ahead and have a read.
Omega 7 is naturally produced in the body or from eating nuts
Omega 3 isn’t produced in the body and is obtained from eating fish
There are several omega fats

No expert on this (or anything really!) But I've just starting taking Sea Buckthorn Oil (Nature's Best) and it contains omegas 3, 6, 7 and 9 which is all of them apparently. It's supposed to be good for stopping the FAS cancer pathway if I remember my Jane McClelland correctly. Also good for dry eyes and everything else which may dry on hormone blockers! Too early to tell if it is doing any good, will keep you posted!
Dear Sandra, you are a great help and thank you for this information. May I ask what brand Omega 7 you are taking? And is it purely Omega 7? Are you also taking Omega 3? What about the Omega 7 supplements that include Omega 3,6 and 9? Are they any good? Sorry to ask you more questions.
Thanks you so much Sandra for taking the time to give me a follow up on the Omega 3/7 issue. I definitely don’t want to be taking anything that can fuel beast cancer cells so it’s back to plain Omega 3 for me then.
Hi Sandra,
Thanks for asking about the difference in the supplements. That is good to know! I have a pack of omega 3,6,7,9 but I haven't opened it yet. I will try to return it, as I don't want to be taking anything that could potentially be harmful. I will stick with my vegan omega 3 capsules (they are derived from marine algae and contain DHA and EPA). I buy them from Cytoplan. It's a minefield trying to navigate drugs, supplements and even some foods that we can consume while staying as healthy as possible with this disease! The last thing we want to do is take anything that could fuel the growth of the disease.
Thanks again for asking about the supplement. I really appreciate it!
Sophie
Thanks, Sandra. That is so kind of your oncologist and oncology pharmacist in helping you out like that. I used to take one vegan omega 3 capsule a day, but now I take two on the recommendation of my integrative doctor (my omega 3 levels were found to be low following a blood test). I don't know if Cytoplan also ships to Canada. Hopefully you can find a good brand from Amazon or from a local health food shop.
