Is it ok to get eyes dilated while on Ibrance and Faslodex

Hello all

I'm on monthly Faslodex and on my second month of Ibrance. I have my annual eye exam on Tuesday -- I had retinal detachment twice in the same eye 10 years ago. I've had no eye problems in 8 years so these annual visits are check ups. Is it ok to get my eyes dilated? I'll call or email my Oncologist Monday morning if needed.

FYI the only side effects I've had are mild fatigue and hair thinning.

Sorry start again...pressed send by mistake!!Obviously you need to check with your oncologist but I’m sure dilatation won’t be a problem as it’s non invasive

I had a vertebraplasty under GA when in Ibrance and no problem

All the best

Hi Skcat

I have been on Ibrance and Letrozole since December 2018 (with monthly Zometa infusions) and have recently experienced blurred, or misty vision. On 17 September my NHS oncologist referred me for an ophthalmology appointment at the same hospital which I went to on Thursday. They were aware of my medical history and I had drops put into my eyes to dilate my pupils before I had a full eye health check and examination. So I think you will be absolutely fine. If you have any doubts ask before the drops are administered. I have been given eye drops to use three times a day for the foreseeable (pardon the pun). Don’t forget to bring your sunglasses for the journey home.

I hope this is helpful.

Hi stardust,

I also am experiencing misty/blurry vision on the same drugs. I go to see an opthamologist on Wednesday to get my eyes dilated. Do the eye drops help? While I have needed to use readers for awhile now, the blurry vision feels different than aging vision changes. I mostly experience it in the morning.

It’s a bit early to say really as I’ve only been using the drops for a few days. I am still experiencing the misty vision at the moment but hoping that will change by using the eye drops three times a day. I am also trying to drink more water which may help. I don’t believe it to be age related (I’m 54) and more likely due to the medication. Sorry for the delay in my response but I couldn’t get this to send. Crossing my fingers this time.

I also had a detached retina and surgery to reattach it about 4 years ago. I had two annual checkups with both my retina specialist and my ophthalmologist while being treated with Ibrance/Faslodex. In all the exams, my eyes were dilated. It was never an issue for me, but it does make sense to check beforehand.

I was on Faslodex fo r over 9 years and had my eyes dilated every year at my annual eye exam. Have had mbc for over 15 years and eye care has not been affected.

From the readings I do and on other forum boards I have been on in the past, there were a large number of women that were mbc for 10 years or more. Which is why I think of it more like a chronic illness. And many of them were still working full-time.

That's fantastic!!! I'm still working full time as a teacher. I think it helps keep some normalcy in my life. Thanks for sharing.

These drugs can cause dry eyes. I used eye drops without preservatives (very important) and a heated eye mask and the blurred vision improved.

I have hair thinning and my finger nails are very strange. Break all the time in weird ways. But thats it. Its been 3.5 years on Ibrance. 😊

Thank you for the replies! My Oncologist wrote back that eye dilation is not an issue while taking Ibrance/Faslodex.

Hi Skcat! I am on the same combo 27 months now. Have had dialation twice for annual eye exams and also had cataract surgery in both eyes last year and never had to stop my meds. Make sure your eye dr knows what you are taking but you should be fine. Best to you!
