Friends — according to this link, only 7% of research dollars go to MBC. We rightly are frustrated about the lack of MBC awareness and education during “pink October.” I plan to post this to my social media on 10/13 which is MBC awareness day

FYI re October 13 and MBC awareness
You are brave. I’m still sorta in the closet. You go, girl! October is not my favorite month🤭
I’m “in the closet” too except for a few friends. I’m not blabbing it all over but using Facebook etc to encourage awareness. I learned the first two times around that not everyone is equipped to handle this news. Right now, I look fine and I want to avoid the look
I blabbed. I’m sorry I did. But I haven’t done anything public. I still have a hard time otherwise I’d do some advocacy. I applaud you.
I have told very few people. That said, it makes me crazy about how little funding goes to MBC. I said this 7 years ago when I had orig diagnosis and never thought I too would have it. I was diagnosed in Oct and it was insane to see pink everywhere saying get screened. I had been screened for years! I have many friends who have had breast cancer and they would flip out if they knew I was MBC. And I often wonder who else has it and stays silent. Say Stage IV and people want to plan your funeral!
We all deal with this diagnosis differently, as we are all different. I told everybody! I have no regrets. I only had one person who kept sending me condolence cards, but even she gave up -- I don't seem to be going anywhere! I'm grateful for that. But the other side of the coin is that when it's scan time, I tell people that I'm nervous about it, and they understand. In addition, very few people understand that there's a difference between stage I and stage IV. Many, many people think there's a cure -- a little chemo and we're all good to go -- I thank the pink ribbon people for that. They lump all stages together as it's in their best interest, it is a non-profit business and saying that everybody is living long lives is good for business. So, I take it upon myself to educate the unknowing as to the reality that we stage IV people live. I don't go dramatic on it, but I do let them know about scanxiety and the aches and pains of my meds. These are the reality. At this point, it's just another thing in my life and that's how they see it.
October is tough - I too try and do some awareness work on social media and will use this article.
One thing I found this year that I think is incredible is the Moore Fight Moore Strong campaign to "lightupMBC which is an effort to light up landmarks in the Metavivor Metastatic ribbon colors of green, pink, and teal.
It's a great awareness campaign and helps offset some of the pink that happens that isn't helpful.

Had no idea the level of funding was that low.
Greetings: Sister/warrior I heard similar information a few years back, that mentioned that the majority of the money donated to eradicate this disease does not go to actual women/men warriors facing this disease. This is a travesty. Women. and yessssss men warriors are suffering everyday through this disease and have to undergo painful medical surgeries, painful treatments, and medications that have adverse painful side effects. They/we deserve better. There will always be greedy people whose agenda is to line their pockets with money. I know there are some well meaning great people/organizations out there fighting to destroy this disease. For the most part I can't put my trust in human beings, but I do put my trust in God to guide me to the right people on this journey. Thank you for keeping us updated on where these donations are really going. Enjoy this beautiful day.
