Hi all, well it’s Friday night, too late to bug my doctor with this question. I’ve got the stomach flu with a fever of 101. I am on day 8 of my current Ibrance 75mg cycle. Should I pause for a few days til I buck this flu?

Any experience or opinions will be greatly appreciated! thanks!

My doctor has suspended it on the rare occasion I’m sick or recently when I underwent endoscopy.

Thanks for your reply nstonerocks, I did speak to my doc’s nurse practitioner last night and she said the same.

Glad it worked out. You’ll be fine. Feel better soon

If you have low neutrophils, you need to call your doctor right away. Mine has told me to call if I get a fever of 100. It can get much worse if your neutrophils are an issue.

KMBL. Thanks for your reply. I don’t know what level my neutrophils are at the moment as I’m not due for another blood test for a week, but my oncologist’s nurse practitioner got back to me and said just pause the Ibrance for a few days until I’m better.

I’m glad you asked. I am always aware because mine have been below normal since I began. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks girlsptz, I did finally get ahold of the nurse practitioner who works for my doc and she said to hold off with the Ibrance for a few days until I kick this.

You could need to be hospitalized if your fever is over 100. Call your doctors office and an oncologist on call will call you back and tell you what to do. None of the women are oncologist nor qualified to answer your question about this.

Thanks Livingthedream, gosh that never occurred to me but I ran really high fevers for a number of ailments when I first started treatment and radiation a year and a half ago. My oncologist was carefully following me through all of it and never once recommended hospitalization. My good news is my fever is down today, my stomach is still sick but I’m over the worst I believe. 🙏🏻

I got the flu in March and was hospitalized because my fever was over 100 - very important to contact your onco. As i said none of the women are oncologist in this group and shouldn't be dispensing medical advise because this a very serious matter.

I agree 100%. I remember my onco telling me if my temperature got over 100 to call the on-call onco for advice. I am sometimes amazed and stunned that others give people advice on what they should take and supplements they should try and even more surprised that there are people that will do it based on what someone else said. I am old school I guess. I just take what the doctor ordered and nothing else. I have never taken supplements or vitamins in my life and I was perfectly healthy until this diagnosis and although sometimes the side effects get to me otherwise I am fine. I could never spend or want to spend so much time on learning about my cancer. That is why I go to a medical cancer center. When I am not there, I concentrate on living my life. Sometimes I even forget I have cancer. These supplements and stuff are not even FDA approved. And the people who invented Ibrance and Verzenio I am sure did not test the meds with various supplements.

Sorry I have only just seen this now, but I am glad your fever is down today. I too had a nasty cold virus a couple of weeks ago and my temperature was just above 100F . I rang the oncology unit and spoke to a nurse , who took down my details . I was pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call shortly after from my NHS oncologist , who advised me not to come in , but to take paracetamol to get my temperature down . Her decision was also based on the fact that I had only been into the chemo ward 4 days earlier for my monthly bloods checking and my wbc were fine at 4.5 and my neutrophyls were 2.5 (I have also had 23 cycles of bloods within normal range for ibrance) , so she said I could continue with my Ibrance 125mg /Letrozole cycle . Luckily the temperature came back to normal within a couple of days, though I had the usual bad cold symptoms and a particularly bad throat for a few days after . I am now fully recovered ... but will be getting my annual flu vaccine (my third) , scheduled for later this month ( I have also heard that there is a nasty flu virus on its way from Australia! ).

So please do ring to get your oncologist’s advice if your temperature ever gets above 100F ! Take care ! x
