How many of you took tamoxifen and for how long ???
After you finished taking tamoxifen how long did it take to diagnose metastasis ???
In my case I took tamoxifen for 6 years, a perfect year and the next I was diagnosed with metastasis in my left hip. I am convinced that tamoxifen protected me somehow. What do you think about this ????
Thank you for being present in my life 🌺🎀🌹

I’m sure the tamoxifen was giving you some protection. I’ve been told that I would have received it for 10 years possibly 15 (I was 49 when I started taking it). Unfortunately I had a lot of severe side effects with it and after exactly 1 year my oncologist took me it off it for 6 weeks to do blood tests to check hormone levels. Because I couldn’t get an appointment to see her - I got lost in the system- it was 3 months before I saw her (and was without any medication during this time) and the day before my appointment an mri of my hip taken to look for arthritis found the mets.
When I was prescribed Tamoxifen back in '09 it was for 5 years. I quit taking it and going to the oncologist after 3 years. Was never a good pill taker, until Now. I did see the protocol had changed to 10 years but thought I was off the hook.
When I was on tamoxifen, the protocol was still for five years only. I took it from 2003 to 2008. Diagnosed with mets in May 2018. We'll never know if ten years of tamoxifen would have prevented my mets.
I took Letrozole for 5 years. At that point they said I could stay on it or go off but that I was such low risk that they really didn’t need it. Three years later I was diagnosed with mets to spine, hips, and ribs. I would guess that staying on it would have prolonged the period before diagnosis but it would have shown up eventually.
