I am new to these group but i find people here are very supportive and share out our experiences throughout our cancer journey.
Me too, no different from many here were diagnose with cancer (breast cancer to be precise) 4years ago and i understand is not any easy journey sofar.
I just started on Faslodex injection not long due to temoxifen no longer work for me. Yesterday, i had my follow up appoinment and i told my onco doctor that i start to have very bad joint pain.
We were talking about my diet and i told him every morning i make my own juice (green apple, carrot, kiwi etc). When he heard that i juicing my fruits, he say i should not do that coz he say juicing destroy the anti oxidant in the fruit itself and i should eat the fruit direct..Is that true?

It’s true that juicing removes the fibre but the amount of nutrients we can take in is much greater with juicing...e.g you can juice 6 raw carrots but probably wouldn’t want to eat that amount whole so I think I’ll continue juicing..I eat dried fruits for fibre
I get a bit fed up of people telling us what to do or not to do !!!
I’m fed up of people telling me what to do....I think common sense!!.. obviously eating chocolate and toffee all day would be stupid but just a balanced diet...juice isn’t a bad thing at all...in my opinion the medical profession can be condescending

Hi Joy,
I juice sometimes too. While I believe it is beneficial to juice, I also think it is important to eat whole fruits and vegetables throughout the day so you can get the fibre (it is stripped away when you juice). Perhaps your doctor was concerned because he did not think you were eating any whole fruits and vegetables, just juicing. So I would just say be balanced. I would continue to juice, but make sure you are also getting plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables too.
You're welcome. I would also recommend making an appointment to see an oncology dietitian who can advise you some more about your diet if you are concerned about what you are eating.
For what it's worth, my understanding is that green juices ( ie vegetable based with say one apple for a bit of sweetness and flavour) are more beneficial than simply juicing fruit. The reason being that juicing fruit concentrates the fruit sugars which are normally tempered by all that fibre. This can effect blood sugar level in an unhelpful way.
So I tend to eat a couple of pieces of fruit per day and when I juice, it is leafy greens, carrots (sweet but rich in betacarotene), an apple and some ginger. I never drink shop-bought pasteurised juice as all the beneficial enzymes are killed by the heat. Best wishes xxx
I make a green drink and the blender lady’s me a few days. My base is Steven gundrys recipe. I put avocado, spinach, kale , romaine, arugula lemon, mint leaves, basil leaves, stevia and other greens like broccoli etc friending on what I have. blend with water, ice then put in mixer containers to store. I think it’s quite good
Combo of cottage cheese and flaxseed oil. I love it actually which is interesting Because I hate cottage cheese. I put ground flaxseeds on top with either fresh blueberries or raspberries, organic of course. And I search for organic cottage cheese and only use that. The formula is 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese to 1 tablespoon of flaxseed oil and I blend it really well.
We’re supposed to make it fresh every time you do it but I don’t have the tolerance for that. So I make it for a couple of days and just take out the appropriate amount each morning before any food. You’re supposed to do it at night but I ate most often forget
First of all welcome to this group of amazing warriors.
You know, it seems to me every onc has their own ideas on what's good and what's not Interesting because they generally have no training in nutrition in medical school.
Finding a nutritionist may be a good idea. Especially one who works with cancer patients.
I have found it increasingly frustrating trying to find consistency in professional opinions on anything in terms of diet and supplements.
I make a smoothie with wheatgrass , almond milk and banana. It just taste s
good!
I'm a vegetarian anyway and try to eat as well as I can.
I appreciate all the wonderful nutritional advice I learn from all you wonderful warriors. I agree that most Oncologist know almost nothing about nutrition. I have found inspiration and advice on You Tube where MDs who also study nutrition interview people who have years of experience. It is becoming more and more well known that nutrition plays a huge role in healing and preventing disease. I agree with the other ladies when they say "keep juicing". I think the veggie juices or smoothies are the best but I love my fruit smoothies too. Best wishes. Marlene
