Markers are indicators of likely cancer activity in the blood. My onc never used them until a PET scan showed activity in my thoracic cavity that could not be safely reached for biopsy. Now we follow them like the they are the holy grail because up til very recently I was fortunate to have no solid tumors. However cancer is not the only thing that can make those number spike, which is why my onc doesn’t like to rely solely on them. Hope that helps. Mine was quite high. 1735 last time they checked and one small but shrinking lesion on my scalp. Go Xeloda!!!
