Has anyone had paracentesis for malignant ascites? I really need to talk to someone. 😢

Yes I have had the proceedure done twice now. First time they drained 5 liters on Friday they drained 3.5 liters. It gave me much relief in my stomach so I could breathe better and finally eat more than a couple bites of food at a time. I used a heating pad for two day for pain at the injection site. They gave me several numbing shots before the proceedure down the right side of my torso. From what I understand I will most likely need this done pretty regularly. They really prefer to not do it more than once a week on patients but I do know a patient who is having to have it done twice a week. If my new chemo works properly I may not have to have it done forever. Good luck to you. I will be thinking of you and praying.

I have had 3 paracentisis procedures. I experienced much relief after them. Each time they drained between 7 and 9 liters. I didn't experieince any side or after effects. I am getting a plurex cather inserted on this Wednesday. It will be great to be able to take out the fluid on a regular basis and not get so full. Wishing relief for you.
