Am I the only person that was never told they had dense breast tissue? The only way I found out is looking at notes on MRI. I shared information with friends and family and their doctor shared that information with them & they were getting Ultrasounds. I feel that if I would have known, the cancer would have gotten caught a lot sooner.

Dense Breast Tissue
I just thought it was a compliment that I HAD nice firm breasts
Are you young?..breast tissue becomes less dense with age which is why mammograms are useless for young women as the tissue is too dense to pick up any abnormalities
I know this as I was 40 yrs when I had a mammogram and it was clear but 6 months later I found a lump and it was cancer

Hi Mjmom,
When I had my mammogram last year leading up to my diagnosis there were a lot of problems. When my GP initially examined me she found it hard to locate any lumps. Then when I had the mammogram there was also a problem in picking anything up. They took images from all angles and there was still uncertainty about whether there was anything wrong. An ultrasound finally showed up the breast tumour. I could see a black mass on the screen, and the biopsy that followed confirmed it was cancer. I was told I have dense breasts too, which is what made it hard to detect the tumour. I am also young.

Hi MJmom!
I was diagnosed with dense breast tissue at around 19...was diagnosed stage 4 at 45....when asked why I didn’t go in earlier the answer is my breast always were like that. Mine would change in density throughout the month corresponding to my cycles... when they just stayed dense after my cycle I knew something was wrong and was diagnosed stage 4 after a 1cm tumor metastasized to my bones...😀
I was always told I had dense breats and always had a mamo and ultrasound. Didn't have early detection. Found at stage 3 initial ly. Now they are both gone!
very common to have dense breast tissue.
I was not told either. I agree with you.
I have always had dense breast tissue. Been having mammograms since my 30's I am now almost 61. It makes it harder to detect cancer. I still get mammograms because I still have my left. First time after mastectomy I asked the technician if it would pop my Foobie she laughed and said we don't do your foobie, there's no tissue. Not did I feel stupid😅
