Has anybody here used a specialized physician for "primary care?" Not a family doctor or general practitioner or internal medicine but some other specialty, like a geriatric specialist or something I've not thought of. How did you find them and are you finding it helpful? My family medicine pcp just retired and I live in a rural area where there are only two primary care doctors and I don't really want to have to depend on either of them. I see so many specialists besides my onc and have had over half my doctors retire in the last 2 1/2 hours. When I saw my gynecologist, who is currently one of my favorite doctors, I asked her about this and she suggested a geriatric specialist but didn't know of any to recommend. All my doctors except one are part of the same area wide medical group, oh, and not my onc either, but the ones in the same big group do have computer access to all my records, which I see as a good thing. But wondering what others do for primary care......

My primary care Doc is a geriactric palliative care doc. She is wonderful! I would suggest a palliative care doc. She is in tune to the plight of mbc and all chronic diseases. Helps with symptom relief and has a therapist right in the office for the emotional issues! I am so happy I found her. She is in private practice! Hope this helps. Good luck.
Hi there,
I am fortunate that I live in an area where there are hundreds of choices. I have had my primary care doctor for about 15 years and happy that she is younger than me so hopefully she won't retire soon. I love her. I like mariootsi's selection for a primary care doc. I also see a naturopath to help boost my immune system, reduce inflammation and with proper eating protocols. I hope you find a good one.
