My dentist recommends that he uses fluoride for one or two nights to help relieve my teeth sensitivity. He says that the process is called flouridization and asks me to take the approval of my oncologist. My tooth pain is getting worse and I don’t get to see my oncologist till after 4 weeks. Does anyone know what we should do in such cases? Are we allowed to have such treatments?

Fluoride treatment for teeth
My dentist prescribed a toothpaste with flouride. My oncologist said that was okay for me to use. (Never swallow, just spit).
I need the additional flouride because a side effect to many medications is excessive dry mouth. As a result, I started having some decay. We need to take care of our teeth, especially if we have bone mets and get bone strengthener's because biophosphonates they can cause jaw bone problems and deformaties if we lose teeth.
Call your onc with the question (leave that in the message) or email the question. A nurse may get back to you, but you'll get your answer.
Gee, surprising but I never thought of asking my oncologist. I just had a fluoride treatment put on my teeth at the dentist this week. Well, one won't kill me. But I better look into it further. Thanks for bringing it up!!
Thanks Diamags. I just hate to overwhelm him with such questions. From my experience they care more about treatment options and are very much focused on trying to keep me alive with my advanced condition. They overlook such questions that they consider as trivial to the extent that they could brush them away.
I'm sorry to hear that. When I was first diagnosed, I too had many if those questions. My doc would have his PA ho through them with me. I love her. With time, I got much better sorting out what is related to getting older and what could be related to cancer. Is there another onc you could consider?
