My story started about a little over a half ago when I tested positive for the BRCA 2 gene. I started with mammograms and MRI every 6 months. Had one good mammogram and MRI. Then in January 2020 had a mammogram and a spot showed up. Had a biopsy and came back positive for breast cancer. Was told I needed a bilateral mastectomy and then would need to decide on my ovaries. Was told I could go on tamoxifen. Went to the doctor the other day and was told I might need chemo now. I am co confused as chemo was never said at the beginning. Any advise will be nice!

Hi,
Sorry you're dealing with this. It can be confusing, depending on your subtype stage and/or oncoscore you may need chemo. Also, studies show breast cancer caused by BRCA mutations should be treated with chemo. Here is a link to FORCE, they can provide you with more information about having genetic mutations: facingourrisk.org/index.php
