4yrs post first diagnosis

I was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in the fall of 2019- had a lumpectomy and have been on Tamoxifen since then.

I am scheduled for my yearly diagnostic mammogram on Thursday but today I noticed a peculiar change in my other breast- redness in one distinct area- the same place as my last tumour was found.

I am in total panic mode of course. Hoping to get in for an expedited mammogram before Thursday but seems unlikely!

Just wanted to connect with others at this time and am hoping for the best but have a scary feeling I could be in for another bout of cancer.

I had a similar concern about 3 yrs. post treatment, they did a fluid extraction and turns out it was a bit of infection. I don't remember exactly what they said but something to do with necrosis at the lumpectomy site, and it is normal. Hopefully that is your issue also.

thanks for yr reply - but this occurrence is on the other breast- the one that was clear-same place but it’s not the lumpectomy site

Hi after all my treatment for breast cancer I went on tamoxifen for 5 years then letrozole for another 5 years. While I was on these meds I developed mastitis twice. It was pretty worrying at the time. After showering I noticed my breast was very red. I immediately went to the doctors who gave me antibiotics and drew a line around the redness saying if it got bigger come back immediately and the doctor also arranged another mammogram. The mastitis cleared up and the mammogram was clear. Take care but hopefully it is nothing sinister.

it is very anxiety provoking and hope you get a quick tests/feedback. Distraction and some nice pampering may take the edge off the anxiety. The whole landscape of treatment has changed In 5 yrs - many more targeted treatments to cover every type of eventuality.
