Feeling emotional after sudden Heart attack & stent placement.?

I’m generally fit & active, swim 3 x per week, walk daily with dog … Always on the go, good varied diet with no restrictions, didn’t take any medication, don’t smoke , drink very little..

Such a shock to have a heart attack a week ago ,whilst doing the food shop,! Not even strenuous..

I was taken by ambulance to hospital & spent 5 days there , I had a Stent fitted 5 days ago.. I feel really emotional though, friends are so attentive but I’m struggling to hold a conversation without crying.?

I’m wondering if this is just the shock?

Hi Tiff

Yup, it’s a common side-effect of, I guess, any life-threatening illness.

After having my own HA I actively avoided talking to anyone because I couldn’t hold a conversation with crying.

I was sent for counselling for PTSD and that helped massively.

If you feel you need the help, do not be afraid to ask for it.

Overall, I can say that after nearly a year since mine, the emotions have backed off some, but I needed the help.

Ian, thanks for the reassurance, early days I know.. how are you physically a year on?

Argh, …”I couldn’t hold a conversation without crying.” Fool.🙄

Anyway, a year on nearly and I still struggle with my MH.

My physical health isn’t too bad. I walk 10kms a day - doing the BHF 10,000 Steps a day for September at the moment.

hello Tiffany I have had 2 heart attacks one at 46 and 50. Had 2 stents fitted. Iam so emotional after my second one. I had it in April and I am talking to a psychiatrist which helps. I think the way you are feeling is natural as it is such a big shock. My dr suggested anti depressants but iam not depressed iam just dealing with a life changing event. Take care. ❤️

hi Tiffany I had a Heart Attack and 2 stents fitted just over a month ago. I have felt exactly the same and even though it doesn’t feel like it, I have been told by people on here that many of them suffered this same anxiety. So from a fellow early recovery stage anxiety sufferer to another, sending my thoughts to you. I have tried quiet meditation and that helped a little. When I get it at the moment I just try and lie down until it passes.

Hi Tiffany, I was just searching to see if anybody was having the same problem as me after my heart attack, which happened three weeks ago. I'm comforted to see that it's not unusual, although I still don't really understand why it's happening. If anybody can share the link to the talking therapies mentioned earlier, I would appreciate it.

Mumbers,

I hope you are feeling a little better now? it does take time, i'm almost 6 weeks on now & can still feel emotional & anxious. I don't have a talking therapy specific number but try the heart nurses, they can help...👍

This is so understandable. It's also still very recent. I broke down every time I had to talk to my mum (I'm 57!). But for me it was part of the healing process - so I didn't deny what had happened. My struggle is now is exercise. I was used to running lots without a care for my HR. But now I've been told I can only run at 80% of my max HR (max = 220-your age)...this is low for me and means I can only run slowly.

I know how you feel, just recovering myself from a HA. I can talk easily over the phone or by text but face to face it's almost impossible to get words out without feeling like I can't breath. Hope it's getting better for you

I find myself in a similar situation having had my heart attack out of the blue after a gym session three weeks ago.

It feels like I’m so busy managing everyone else’s emotions that I have only just begun to address my own.
