I had a heart attach earlier this year and had an angio procedure done to clear a blocked artery. Have been on medications since then that include blood thinning medication as well as cholesterol reducing medications (statins). After about two or three months of taking these medications, I started getting almost all known side effects of statin. Joints, muscle pain, breathing, confusion, memory issues, difficult sleeping etc...... Once i started feeling these issues I started reading about all medications I’m taking and that is when I learned of the statins side effects. I stopped taking statins and in two weeks, almost all symptoms disappeared but then my LDL shot up. I have gone back on statins and immediately, started suffering again.
I have read some studies and watched video clips on YouTube that contradict everything that we know about cholesterol and warn against the use of statins.
While I’m now back on statins and suffering significantly, can anyone with experience advise me what to do. Thanking you all.

Hi Adrush I am sorry that you are experiencing the issues with Statins . After trying several It was apparent that like many others I was Statin intolerant. I stopped them and took Ezetimibe instead which has worked for me no aches or pains and LDL controlled. Perhaps discuss with GP. Good luck 😊
Thank you for taking the time to respond. My sincere appreciation. My GP insisted that I continue with statins but will have another go with your suggestion. Regards
I have had the stent fittedtoo!! Its now been 4 years... Cant believe it really. Ive been lucky and had no side effects from statin... But remember all the prpblems with blood thinners etc.
The best option is to go back to the hospital where you had the procedure. Get your gp to refer you.
There are other cholesterol reducing drugs you can try which the consultant can discuss with you. Its important to do this immediately.... Dont delay... Dint risk your health... Its too important.
I had a similar experience to you 7 years ago. I have dropped Statins within 2 weeks because the evidence for cholesterol being a driver of heart disease is very weak. In fact as I have stated before on here, if anyone can find a well designed study that shows people with Triglyceride to HDL ratio below 1 get heart disease irrespective of their LDL levels then they can claim 5,000 dollars off the American guy offering the reward. Take your Trig's divide them by your HDL and I would say if its below 1.5 stop worrying about Cholesterol
Thank you OliasofSunhillow. I appreciate your taking time to respond. Yes, I have come across an article doubting the cholesterols impact and have been wondering. May I ask of you are taking anything (medications) at all now. I can list what my Cardiologist insist that I continue taking forever:
While on statins you may also find that CoQ10 and Omega 3 are helpful. Omegas are usually helpful for the brain especially. Co Q10 helps replenish CoQ10 levels.
Thank you SCA2013. While I’m already taking Omega-3, I will plan to soon get some Co Q10. However, I have recently switched to Keto diet with the intention to soon stop statins altogether despite doctors insistence.
