Your local hospital should run a cardiac rehabilitation course. If not, then get in touch with British Heart Foundation and they will tell you about programmes local to you. Of course there may be some reason why you will not be able to take part in the course. In my case it was postponed for a year because of other problems. Get in touch with the hospital who dealt with you and ask them about it.

A Cardiac Rehab Nurse came to me a few days after my heart surgery to talk about the scheme. I was then called in for an assessment about 5 weeks after discharge and started rehab about 4 weeks later. It was well organised & a great scheme. Well worth attending if you can.

Was contacted by local trusts cardiology nurse by phone the day I was discharged from another specialist hospital. Started rehab within two weeks. Completed full course, twice weekly for 10 weeks. Then joined local gym, had assessment with the same person who lead my rehab, then was put on a programme specially adapted for my condition/ rehab. That was a year ago.....still going to the gym. Lost over two stone in weight, eating/ cooking so healthily, I squeak! Feeling great. The heart is your biggest muscle, and in most cases it's perfectly safe to give it plenty of good exercise. Gym...walking...swimming etc.
