does rls bring pains from the buttock... - Restless Legs Syn...
does rls bring pains from the buttocks right down the back of the legs burning aching feeling ?
Have you seen your GP about these symptoms as it could be caused by a number of things. I am not an expert just a fellow chronic suffere of RLS. Burning can be a feature of RLS but also nerve damage. Aching can be a feature of RLS. Is it relieved by movement and how long have you had these distressing symptoms? Is it just the back of the legs and I am not belittling it?
could be sciatica also, just a suggestion Suri
I have severe sciatica and I am bettingthat is your issue. RLS is not nerve pain shooting down your leg at all.
google sciatic nerve and see a pic of where the nerve runs down the back of your legs and from your buttocks. That is not RLS. As mush as we would like to blame all our aches and pains on RLS, that is actually too easy. We have to figure out what is and is not RLS and get them treated. I can speak about that issue`with lots of personal experience, with more back surgery coming up. Fell on the`ice today, cracked my tailbone probably for the 4th time. There is a big difference between sciatic nerve pain that comes from trapped nerves, and any pain that comes with RLS. Believe me I have BOTH today, and they`are VERY different.
I remember my sleep doctor telling me that restless legs do not cause pain like I had which was down my legs and buttocks. Come to find out I had major back issues and had major back surgery. I was so excited thinking that the surgery would take care of the problems in my legs, wrong after going off pain meds from surgery the restless legs came back with a vengeance. At least I don't have the pain. But as you can see here I am up at 4 in the morning actually up at 2 with my legs jumping around like a fish out of water. I am sick and tired of living like this. I have got to find the right combo of medicine, but until then I am suffering.
I have a pain that goes from my left buttock down the side of my left leg. I wake up in the night with it and it sets my restless legs off. My GP did a 'sciatica test' and said that he didn't think that it was. He has sent me to have an x ray. Iknow that the muscles in that area of my hip can be very tight and painful because of all the tensing and contorting of my body that I do to manage my rest less legs. Don't know if that is anything similar to you?
me, too. They cut the occipital nerve in my neck when it was so trapped they could not fix it. Stopped a lot of headaches. The sciastic nerve will drive you nuts the more you put it off. I fell yesterday, and already had tests and an evaluation set up, because I have more herniated discs that sciatic neve again. You will know when you cannot take it anymore, trust me. Have you had an MRI done of your back yet?
That is a long time coming, I am afraid.
I've had sciatica since my middle son was born...after spending a fortune on an osteopath which didnt help at all I went to see a brilliant physiotherapist ONCE!!!! He gave me 2 exersises to do...if I do them the sciatica is quiet...if I don't...it hurts lots. I'm sure all the tensing from rls makes it worse though .
Sure....depends where you live if you are in the US it might be a bit far.....but I could tell you the exercises if you want.!
They are very simple....20 reps twice a day
1. Lie on your back with knees up , feet very slightly apart, slowly let your legs drop to the side, knees together, using no force, just the weight of your legs just as far as they will go without pushing, be very careful not to let your pelvis move . Lock your pelvis before you start. The movement won't be much and its different on each side. So drop to the right , centre , check pelvis, drop to left. Lots of words for a simple excercise
I would like to try this, but I don't understand the directions and what I should do. Are your feet on the floor or held up? How do your legs drop to the side if your knees are together? Sorry. But you explain again?
2. Lie on your side in the same position, knees up,,legs ,ankles ,knees, feet together....slowly .....lift one knee up, as far as is comfortable, then lower slowly. keep feet as much together as you can . Sort of scissor like. do not let pelvis move....this is most important or it won't work. 20 reps each side. You won't see much movement....this is good as it means you are not rolling your pelvis .if you can get your knee to 90 degrees, your pelvis is involved and that's no good!...just takes a bit of awareness of locking your pelvis .....hope it helps x X
It may help your arthritis....just go gently and slowly..it should not hurt or feel uncomfortable. Good luck.
Sounds more like a pinched nerve to me.. Sciatic like. sure.
