Posted on behalf of our friends at the British Snoring & Sleep Apnoea Association:

The British Snoring & Sleep Apnoea Association is conducting a UK wide survey into public awareness of the condition sleep apnoea. Our aims are to test public knowledge about signs, symptoms and health risks associated with this condition.

To do this we need adult participants from all walks of life and hope that you will be keen to take part.

You can complete the survey on the website: sleepapnoeasurvey.org.uk

The survey will run until the end of January 2013. The results will be published during National Stop Snoring 22 - 27 April 2013.

British Snoring & Sleep Apnoea Association is a not-for-profit organisation and Information Standard Accredited.

Done. I think is very important everyone to have acknowledge about sleep apnoea. My daughter was about 4 when we found she had this. She just stop breadthing or chocking while asleep, she also snored realy loud. she ended to sleep in our bed so we could keep an eye on her.she had op on throat, nose and ears same day we could see the difference she didn't snore again. Doctors also found she was/is a bit deaf. She's 17 on college taking A levels.

Although I have completed the questionnaire 'cos I suffer from sleep apnoea, I am somewhat confused. I have seen a website for the Sleep Apnoea Trust that does produce leaflets, holds meetings and is informative. The British Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Association is completely new to me and their website seems to just be about selling or renting out various products...something I am very suspicious about. Can anyone shed some light on the veracity of the BSSNA? Tpebop,

Good morning,

I contacted the BSSAA and put your questions to them.

They replied:

"BSSAA is a not for profit organisation. We are able to maintain our help-line and advice service through sales from our on-line shop. The survey was separated from the main website so that there would be no commercial influence. This is a nationwide research project undertaken by us for non-commercial reasons."

My understanding is that this survey is being run to ascertain the level of public knowledge and understanding of Sleep Apnoea.

I am aways very wary of commercial exploitation of those suffering from RLS or associated conditions and I was mindful of this when I decided to promote the Sleep Apnoea survey. I do not believe this is a commercial venture. If you have any further concerns, please feel free to contact me directly chair@rls-uk.org

Many thanks
