I'm sure this question regarding Gabapentine has been answered before.

I am currently wearing a 3mg Neupro patch and am taking 400mg Gabapentine tablets three times a day. I have been on this regime for about two months and initially I experienced a huge improvement in my condition although the nights were by no means perfect. Over the last week I have had very bad nights with very little sleep and when I do eventually get to bed I kick hell out of my poor wife.

My question is - can I up the dosage of Gabapentine and, if so, to what level. So far I experience no side effects from the patch or the tablets so I am not worried about increasing the dose from that point of view. I am going to Australia for three months as from the beginning of December and would like to get sorted out before I leave.

Of course I will refer the problem to my GP but he knows little about the RLS condition or the medications used to treat it so I am continually advising him.

Dear birdman

I am sorry to say that I am not familiar with the patches that seem to be used in your country.

What I would do in you're situation is to contact my neurologist. Do you have one you can contact?

In any case, you can get a doctors opinion via this site, can't you? That osmybest bet.

All the best. Kolla

Thank you for your replay. No, I don't have a neurologist that I can easily contact but I will be seeing my GP.

Thanks very much for your reply - I thought that was the case - I'm sure my GP mentioned it when he last prescribed my medication. It looks as if I have to make the step up.

Yes, you can go quite high with the Gabapentin dose. I hope the increase works for you and that its not the patch that you are augmenting on...

Thank you for your post - you raise an interesting point - is it the Neupro patch that I am augmenting on rather than the Gabapentine losing it's effectiveness? It's a bit soon for me to go back to my neurologist so I think I will see my GP and suggest upping the Gabapentine and see what happens.

Do you remember commenting on my question regarding Hydroxychloroquine back in October?

The patient leaflet will have the maximum dose for gabapentin but know nothing about the patches. As part of my meds I am taking a low dose of pregabalin which is a stronger version of gabapentin used also for neurophathic pain. It's also known as Lyrica. Not been on it long but it seems to help. It would be best if you could see a neurologists and you would need to check for interactions. I have had gabapentin in the past and was on 900mg a day I think but don't quote me.

Not what you're looking for?
