Rls and monthly cycle.

Hi, I am new to this site, i currently take pramipexole 2 88mcg at night, these have been the best i've tried over the years. They have worked brill apart from about 2 weeks before my periods the rls comes back, early evening and nights. It eases when i come on and goes away when i come off. My doctor didn't have any answers, is there anyone who as been through the same or knows why this happens. Kind Regards Robbo34 XX

It makes sense that our blood levels flucuate with the menstral cycle.

Maybe some hormones are involved that affect our natural sleep cycle

and maybe that's part of the legs acting up deal?

I have not kept a diary of how that works..

I am the same , the monthly cycle does overide the effectiveness of the tablets I take...as soon as I come on it's back to normal, or as normal as you can be with RLS......

I have been keeping a diary as I was convinced that my RLS is linked to my monthly cycle. There is definitely a pattern and the Ropinerole doesn't seem to work throughout my period and for a few days 2 weeks before. My sleep pattern is pretty awful these days even when my legs are not playing so, so I don't think that being awake has anything to do with it.

Thank you all for your input, least i now know i'm not the only one who this happens to. Well i'll carry on as usual and see how i go. A day off work today due to these damn aching legs keeping me awake most of the night, must be the only person who can't wait for her period to happen lol. Thanks again everyone Robbo 34 xx

Some people can have monthly cycle issues, but that does not help the guys. No one knows why at all, I can tell you that. It is the same thing when women are pregnant. RLs can come on with a vengeance. Again, there are only guesses why this happens. Again, men do not get pregnant :), so we either come up with a hundred different theories and just keep guessing. NO expert really knows why. You can write to Dr, Buchfuhrer at rlshelp.org and read his web site. But, nobody knows why this strange hormonal things happens, because of the male and female issues.

I know exactly what you mean. About a week or two before my period is due by RLS symptoms go through the roof! I'm not on any medication, but did mention to one of the doctors at my GP practice a couple of years ago that I believed I had RLS. He was sympathetic and believed me, and when I mentioned about it being linked to my monthly cycle he seemed to already be aware of this. So, you're not alone and it must be reasonably common. BTW, I don't think it's just women who have monthly hormonal cycles, I think men do but not in such an obvious manner.

I have been researching similarly. For me, almost every time, my rls gets worse about 8-10 days before my period. If I am going to have an all nighter, it will be then. MOST of the time, my period starting heralds an almost complete stop of rls for a few very nice and very sleepy days. I am wondering if the iron I am taking gets bled off during my period and I actually do better. I started taking iron supplements because of very heavy peri-menopausal periods and because my regular and stored iron was so low. My energy came up, but so did my rls. I took ashwaghanda to help with my periods but have still been on iron supps because I had been so low. To handle rls, most of the time I cut strips on xl icy hot pads and wrap strips around my ankles and across my calves at night. I have socks that I cut the toes off of, that I wear over the pads. This alleviates a lot of the regular rls, but struggles to handle the pre-period jump. Manjistha also helps some.

I have just wondered at the mostly incredible LACK of rls over my period, as compared to the rest of the month. Wish I knew the answer-- I only have theories. My body goes into recoup mode and I sleep 8-10 hours if I can during that period.
