I would love to know what pain meda works for any rls sufferers. I have awful pain ESP at night which means no sleep! I am on Mirapex which helps but not with the pain. Going to my Dr tomorrow and want to suggest some meds to her. Oh for some sleep and relief from pain. :(

HI,

Amitriptyline was the only thing that worked for me, but since using Magnesium I have lowered my dose from 100mg to just 10mg ( see my post below Himalayan salt and vitamin D3)

Best wishes

Steve

I have to comment here. Amitryptiline is in the class of antidepressants that is called tricyclics, and while it ay be ok for you to take, Steven, the warning needs to go along with that. Tricyclics and SSRI antidpressants are well known to make RLS worse. I know everyone is differnet, but this is pretty universal. rlshelp.org- go to the treatment page, Florence, and look at the list of all the meds including pain meds that are used for RLS. It is also as important to look at the list of Drugs and Foods to Avoid on that same page. Best med information on the internet for RLS; site is maintained by an RLS specialist for the last 17 yrs. I strongly suggest you look there. I will tell you what I take personally, keeping in mind I take these for chronic pain kissues from failed back surgery and 3 neck surgeries. But, the pain meds are the only thing that stop my RLS. so, they are my RLS meds,. too. Slow released morphine every 12 hrs, which you should nt ask for out of the gate. There are many other pain meds that people take to help the pain plus the RLS. Hydrocodone is a common one that is used, and of you are in England, I know you can buy codeine over the counter, so that would be the first thing to try after talking to your doctor. It is important to remember that everyone's RLS can and will act differently on any given day, and differnt med affect different people. all I can say is good luck, since I am not sure what country you are in. It is all trial and error, and you have to make sure that your doctor agrees that the RLS is what is causing the pain by eliminating other possibilties to be safe. Good luck!
