Has anyone had any experience with acupuncture helping RLS symptoms? I hurt my back and acupuncture was prescribed for the pain. I wanted to know if acupuncture could trigger RLS. Well it turns out according to some research I found it's just the opposite. Has anybody tried it for restless legs and what was the outcome?

Thank you Karen

This comes up quite often on the forum: as in the thread linked below, some say it helps, most say that it doesn't:

I wasted a lot of money on acupuncture. It did absolutely nothing for my RLS.

Trying to lie still on the table was difficult.

I travelled to the 'best' place in the UK where visiting professors of acupuncture from China practise.

They actually admitted that acupuncture wouldn't help- but did it anyway.

And then sent me home with foul smelling herbs to boil up at home. Even my neighbours complained about the pungent aroma!

Like Joolsg I have spent a lot of money over the years on acupuncture to no avail.

I had acupuncture with a great Chinese doctor on and off for a few years and it did help quite a bit with relaxation in general and a wellbeing feeling. Not sure if it helped with the RL. In 2024 I was so desperate for something that might help, I started it again and found that the acupuncture started up the RL there and then really badly and I could not lie on the treatment bed, so no it doesn't help RL (in my experience).

fortunately my insurance is paying 100% for me to go to acupuncture for my back pain. Strange Kaiser is doing that. That's when I looked up to see if it would cause restless legs. But from the responses seems like it doesn't do anything much for RLS. Right away the practitioner started talking about supplements and chinese herbs and incense for inflammation.....But I am open to some acupuncture.
