??? re Statin use

Hi everyone- I have been on 40mg daily Atorvastatin for @ least 20 years but over the last 2 weeks I was advised not to take them as had an infection & had to take antibiotics. During this time I was(& still am) taking 125mg of Pregabalin & have had the best 2 weeks of uninterrupted sleep that I can remember!!No RL whatsoever or the blistering heat on my feet which is a massive win.

My course of antibiotics has now finished & I can go back on statins BUT is there anything I can ask my Dr regarding a different type of statin or any other type of medication that will serve the same purpose or should I just revert back to my normal routine as it might not have anything to do with not taking statin as we all know that RL episodes can stop & then restart for no apparent reason such is the nature of this condition.

I'll be interested in any advice especially if had similar experiences...thank you

All statins make RLS worse as you have discovered. Nexlizet (Nustendi (UK) is a cholesterol lowering drug that is not a statin, but I don’t know if it exacerbates RLS symptoms. Ezetimibe (Zetia) - reduces cholesterol although It doesn't reduce cholesterol as fast as the statins, but according to Chris Columbus it didn't trigger his RLSand then there is Triglide which seems safe. You might want to discuss these with your doctor. A more difficult way to reduce cholesterol is to go vegan. My husband lowered his cholesterol from 221 to 131 this way.

my doc just changed statin to another type, a lot better for rls I think, but too early to say as I had two days on it. Also I found when I'm sick and taking antibiotics my rls is nill, cheers. N
