sorry for the negative post right before New Year

I’m on holiday right now, with my husband, in a beautiful hotel with glorious weather and my RLS has kept me awake every night since we arrived 😩.

Recently started Gabapentin on 200mg per night, clearly it’s still not enough, so hopefully my gp will increase it when I get home next week.

But She’s very cautious about prescribing, which is fair enough I guess.

Tell me I’m not the only one who wishes for both full leg amputation sometimes 😢

wishing you all a peaceful evening.

No - you are not the only one to experience heightened RLS when eating out.

Such as hotels and restaurants.

Isn't the food and wine absolutely deeelishus?

And why would that be??

Because they slather the msg into all the sauces and gravies and stocks and soups.

And if you are in any way like me, that will drive your RLS experience absolutely tippity tappity crazy.

Arms and legs flailing around , slamming fist into the wall, wanting just to end it all.

Horrible.

I can't suggest any instant relief except to take Pramipexol or Ropinerol if you can get it instantly. It's not OTC.

You could go into a pharmacy and try to get whatever codeine medication that is OTC and take as much as might be safe.

You don't say what country you are holidaying in--- if it's Spain, then you do have a chance of getting something meaningful-- talk to the pharmacist and explain your dilemma .

Otherwise, just choose very carefully from the menu..

All the very best, and do let us know how you get on.

Happy New Year.

Wow thank you for this, I genuinely didn’t give the food a second thought, I haven’t went daft but I normally have a pretty restricted diet at home. We’re in the Canary Islands but heading home on 2nd so I’ll put up and walk the balcony for another two nights!!

I love the Canaries --- particularly Lanzarote and PdC. If you are in a hotel with buffet dining, then you can at least choose carefully.

Also a very good pharmacist on main drag.

Do distinguish between real chemists as we understand them, and pharmacias which sells health products.

All the best.

We are in PDC !! In such a lovely hotel called Lava Beach, it’s beautiful 😍. I’m going to take Sue’s advice and speak to my gp about upping the GABA ! Xx

200 mg is less than the starting dose of 300 mg and it takes 3 weeks to be fully effective. I previously gave you how to take it and what not to take within x number of hours but will be glad to give it to you again.

You might want to print out the section in the Mayo Algorithm to show her that the usual effective dose is 1200 to 1800 mg.

Thank you Sue, both my gp and I are a wee bit wary of the dosage of gaba, I won’t deny that it scares me, but living with rls scares me more!!

I’m home in 2 days so will try to get a phone call with my gp about increasing the gaba I think I was just a bit teary earlier when I posted 😢

That's because this horrible affliction causes many nights of frustration and tears. No need to apologize. Hope you're feeling better.

NICE Gabapentin prescribing information states: Initial dose: 300 mg if the person is under 65 years old and 100 mg if the person is over 65 years old.

I'm currently taking 900mg which is still a fairly low dose. I have also found my GP(s) very cautious about prescribing and it has taken a few appointments to get to 900mg.

Tw. Just a quick reply. You may know this but it’s worth repeating. Look after what you eat, use a bean bag in the microwave to ‘heat’ up your affected area and try mag/zinc oil and rub well in. If you want to read my story go to my posts. Dave

Oh I used to wish I could take my legs off at night & hang them up overnight, so I could be left in peace!

And just to add I went up to 1,200 mg gabapentin with no adverse affects

I would be worried about getting phantom limb pains after an amputation. If you are now in a country where it is legal then I would try some Kratom.

I think It’s illegal in the UK, although the fact I’m scared of upping my gaba dose will tell you that I probably wouldn’t try it anyway 😂.

I wonder if the phantom limb pains would disappear if you move your phantom limbs 🤣

Lol !! At least you could take the phantom limbs and launch them off a cliff 😂

After a night of hearing my father stomping around with his RLS I use to tell him he needed to have his legs amputated. He would glare at me. Now I understand!
