Anti-anxiety meds?

I'm guessing RLS/PLMD sufferers do not have anti-anxiety medication issues but I thought I would check?

On top of the RLS/PLMD drug problems, I have a CYP 2D6 liver enzyme issue that, when it is involved (which is often), I have trouble tolerating those drugs. And I may need something more than periodically.

It is my labile hypertension that has gone out of whack because of too much stress, including the difficulties I have found in tolerating bp meds. It is not so simple as treating the bp as mine fluctuates and spikes to dangerous levels regularly.

HI wantokporo,

Can you clarify your question? Is there a specific medication you're asking about? Some medications are known to cause issues for those with RLS, other medications are less likely. Everyone is a little different but it might help for others to answer your question(s) if a medication is named.

I'm going to the doctor today and I wanted to be more aware of my options. I was thinking about vistaril or buspar? I will check the RLS site. Thanks.

I hope I am not too late in answering this but vistaril is not safe for RLS. Buspar is.

There is a list of meds that trigger/worsen RLS on the rls.org website. Most SSRI and SNRI and tricyclical anti depressants worsen RLS.

Benzodiazepenes treat anxiety - and they are safe for RLS.

It's best to name the med or look it up on the website.

Just from personal experience, if you are seeing your GP for anxiety see if they will prescribe Pregablin rather than any SSRI or Tricyclic as both make RLS worse but Pregablin really helps RLS (is a first line medication from knowledgable neurologists)

It is an NHS recognised medication for anxiety
