Has anyone tried a transdermal iron patch and does it raise your levels at all? I have been taking the supplements which have helped tremendously, until they started messing up my gastrointestinal system, and that was with the timed release, gentle iron and the sublingual iron as well. My doctor will not agree to a transfusion. Thank you for any information on the patch!

Question About Iron Supplement
Hi Rwall, if your ferritin is say 50 or higher, I would just stop the iron all together for awhile and give yourself a break. A good piece of meat a couple times a week should maintain or even raise your iron. The OTC patches have been shown to be ineffective in studies, but I would search on the internet if I were you.
If I remember correctly the last time you posted your ferritin it was 300, so you don't really need to take any iron. Have you had a recent test?
DesertOasis is right that they have not been shown in a study to raise ferritin.
Not a patch but ive been on iron supplements for over a year and im also using a Rotigotine transdermal patch and my rls has stopped since February. There are a lot of posts on here about the negatives of Rotigotine. They are working for me. Ive previously tried Pramipexole, Clonazepam and Ropinirole. They didn’t work for too long and then stopped working completely.
If pramipexole and ropinirole stopped working than the Rotigotine transdermal patch will too as they are all dopamine agonists. 3 mg is the maximum dose. Don't go any higher. When that stops working and it will, post back here and we can give you advice on how to come off it and what to take where you don't have to worry about it stopping working.
