Valdoxan (agomelatine) brief trial

I tried Valdoxan (agomelatine) recently as I am titrating down from pregabalin.

It's an antidepressant but some people use it for sleep (and one or two people that i've read of have had success with it for RLS).

I only tried a small amount, around 12.5mg (standard dose is 25mg).

The first night wasn't too bad. The second and third nights, seemed to really exacerbate limb movement. It didn't help sleep either (in fact it seemed to have almost the opposite effect) and i felt a bit off on it, which can sometimes be expected on new medications.

I saw my sleep specialist yesterday and showed him the extensive list of medications i had tried. He said of Valdoxan "you wouldn't want that, it would only make things worse". I presume he was talking about it being a melatonin agonist (acting like a super potent form of melatonin).

So, that's my brief experience of it. I like to record my experiences so that when people search this forum, they can see other's experience of particular medications.

It's a shame you didn't ask first as I had it on my list of drugs that made RLS worse.

That's odd, on this forum, your previous reply to another member in relation to a query on agomelatine was:

An article in my research say it is OK. Some say not. Only way to know is to try it.

Anyhow, I was already aware that it could exacerbate RLS in some people.

However, given that i don't respond badly to melatonin, i thought i would try for myself.

As i stated in my post, at least a couple of people have found it helpful for their RLS.

That was 2 years ago. I update my list as I find new information.
