I know that PPIs are taboo but what about famotidine and it's cousins? I am in need of something longer lasting than Gaviscon. Thanks.

Heartburn
I may be an exception but i have used esomeprazole, a PPI, on several occasions (i don't take it ongoing, just for a week or two at a time) and haven't noticed that it worsens RLS.
Coincidentally i was ordering from iHerb this morning and thought i'd see if there were any supplements that might help acid reflux, and i came across this
au.iherb.com/pr/thorne-gi-r...
There are many more in this category, but this particular one gets lots of good reviews and is a good brand. I haven't used it myself so can't vouch for it.
Famotidine, cimetidine, nizatidine and ranitidine have all been reported to make RLS worse in many, as of course have PPIs - although as Amrob points out this is not absolutely universal.
As to Gaviscon - I'm not sure what is available OTC in Mexico, but if it's the same formulation as the US as you say it's unlikely to be adequate. If you can get the more effective UK Gaviscon Advance from a trusted source you may find that this helps more.
I was getting bad RLS on Omeprazole, and my GP suggested trying Famotidine 10mg, just taking one in the morning. I still get some acid reflux later in the day, and am experiencing still RLS on this! Currently experimenting with sleeping on an incline to stop night time reflux!
PPIs gave me HORRIBLE leg cramps and there are other side effects from long term use.
I have used the Medcline system (wedge) for eight years and it helps for sure. Just don't give up on it. It takes a little acclimation but then, if you are like me, you will welcome it. Especially not waking up with a sore throat. It inconvenient to travel with, but we don't do much of that. You can always just leave it home.
I also drink high pH water (8.8 or higher) first thing in the morning (before any acidic drink) to neutralize any Pepsin that got into my esophagus (from my mild hiatal hernia). Search for the benefits and you will find the studies. (Costco has that water, FWIW.)
You want Gaviscon ADVANCE which is not sold in Mexico but you can go to the US Amazon site and order it there. Amazon will ship some products to Mexico, but you need to check with them whether they will ship Gaviscon Advance.
I have come off omeprazole but found no difference to my RLS. So more than one of us
Thanks everyone. I just.ordered Gaviscon Advance (yes -- they deliver to Mexico). I am reluctant to try famotidine, etc since I reacted.badly to.omeprazole. Sure wish that there was a once a day version of Gaviscon..
I have taken ranitidine, omeprazole and lansoprazole will no adverse effects on my RLS. A low acid diet may help.Dr.Louise Kaufman's Acid Reflux Diet book is really helpful. She's a specialist in reflux/ gastric issues.I
Thanks to those who have suggested Omeprazole. I took an omeprazole *once* and that was enough for me. I am happy that it works for you all, but I do not tolerate it.
Have you tried taking a good probiotic?
Yes. No effect on my RLS.
I was thinking of your heartburn. I used to have chronic heartburn until I tried a really good probiotic which I take every day. If I miss a day the heartburn comes back. I know we are all different but I just thought I'd mention it. All the best....
What is the probiotic please?
I'm in the US and purchase online from a company called Swanson (swansonvitamins.com). They sell a probiotic called "Dr. Stephen Langer's Ultimate 16 Strain Probiotic". Very affordable. They recommend one capsule a day but many days I take two. I have seen that Joolsg has also recommended a particular probiotic but I can't remember the name.
I’ve used famotidine occasionally for heartburn and it hasn’t caused any issues with my RLS. I’m on a low dose of oxycodone and gabapentin though, so perhaps that is what is masking the effects of the famotidine.
But you should try other techniques to control the heartburn. For example get Tums (calcium carbonate tablets). I avoid greasy food and stop eating after 6pm.
Gavisvon Advance barely touches my GERD symptoms when I have them. I use pantoprazole, a PPI, for a two week course when it flares up. It doesn’t bother my RLS. I think my GERD is related to the constipation side effect of opioids, so keeping that from being bad is critical.
Trying to reduce the acidity is completely the wrong thing to do as heartburn is a valve problem, not a problem of over acidity. There are a few temporary solutions but long term you need to change your diet. youtu.be/aZx-8z2U6qY?si=Hzi...
I cured my heartburn by giving up white refined carbohydrates. If I eat bread, cakes, sugar, biscuits, pizza etc it comes back. It’s slightly infuriating how many people are now saying this, but a keto anti inflammatory diet is clearly is the right way forward for good health.
