BBC Morning Live RLS item

Did anyone else see the item on RLS on the BBC Morning Live earlier this week? What did you think? I thought it was very weak - rushed, garbled and confusing, Considering their assertion that 1:10 of the populace have RLS, surely it deserved better?

From the style of programme that it is we cannot really expect too much but there is no such thing as bad publicity. It was more directed to those that do not know about RLS. There was a positive increase in activity on our RLS-UK website that day. Our FB Page Restless Legs Syndrome: RLS UK was extra busy with people commenting after the Morning Live snippet and so was the FB Morning Live page too! There were more comments about RLS on their Morning Live FB page than they appear to have received on other matters discussed over the past few months. It raised awareness which is good, isn't it?

Yes, it’s good publicity. I just think that, compared to how well other conditions and far more trivial subjects are covered, this item was not done very well.

Do you mean how well other conditions are covered on Morning Live? Their chat on Parkinsons a few weeks back received only four comments on their Morning Live FB page.

Ok. Fair enough.

I was disappointed that the lady who was brave enough to go on the programme was not given a proper chance to tell how RLS affected her and even how difficult it is for sufferers to get proper help.

From what Kaarina says it did seem to raise a bit of interest which can only be a good thing.

I feel that the name of the ailment is very against people understanding the severity of the condition and how life-changing it can be. I did not tell people I suffered RLS because they would say " why can't you just keep your legs still"!

I agree they should have referred to RLS by its correct name as well at least once.

I watched some but the coverage was ,like everything, just a 5 minute slot. They open the window and disnt cover enough, due to time constraints. Im glad of the publicity as making people aware that they are not alone must be a relief. I discovered ghat for something else a little while back. The comfort it gave me was priceless. They also didnt cover other similar diagnoses. I believe mentioning parkinsons in such a brief aryicle was not wise.

I don't think they told the severity of what it's like and how debilitating it can be and hour's spent walking around at night because it's the only relief we can get.
