I don’t get it?

Stayed at my lads last night. Big meal, couple of drinks (unheard of for me as alcohol is a trigger for me), didn’t get back to take my meds until midnight, strange bed. Recipe for RLS/PLMD hell you’d think? Slept the best I have for months! WTAF?

Wow, I've had that happen recently too--strange bed, forgot meds, ate sugar, and slept well. WTF!

Weird!

I wouldn't guarantee that it would work like that every night, but perhaps you could carry out an extensive trial and let us know... 😉

Ha! I've had similar sorts of experiences...those nights that i think i'm guaranteed a bad sleep and the converse happens.

Convinced stress is also a trigger..perhaps the change of scene, relaxed environment helped?? But, as you say, very odd..RLS is a very complex condition...

I agree with you. Going one step further, I believe that when I’m truly happy, my RLS is a lot less. So that could explain why when we go somewhere new, somewhere nice, it’s better. Though only for as long as we feel happy in that new location. So perhaps being HAPPY is key!

Since nothing works for me for very long, I take note (and make notes) of nights when I sleep fairly well. I don't want to waste the chance of a night's sleep by repeating unnecessarily. I can try to repeat the sequence just before a special occasion.

I have also experienced this in many cases, but after a few days of sleeping in a different environment, the RLS problem returned. I thought it was strange too

That happened to me too. My friends have moved into one of those very modern light houses with divine silk duvet. They reckon it is because their house is very zen and they have got rid of all their "stuff".

I'm always going away & staying in different beds & eating different foods & drinking more than when home & have different experiences with RL all time so no rhyme or reason to this disease !!

I still don't understand either. Ive been off my meds for 4 weeks now after 15 years of Dopamine Agnostic and I've never slept so well!!! I keep waiting for it to come back. Its not perfect but 90% better than the torture of augmentation and withdrawal. I'm glad you had a great night without any consequences 😊

Had that happen to me. I have found that as RLS is a neurological disorder (I think), if you are focused on what you are doing or are really in the moment at a social event out or party, your brain is occupied fully. Once you relax and disengage, it can kick in with no meds, Of course, it's hard to focus all the time. That seems to be the challenge for me....keeping busy. I've come home late at night and just wanted to hit the bed and forgot to take any meds and slept fine. Can't explain it. I wish we all had an answer.

This is such a weird neurological disease: I too find when I am away on travel, away from the craziness of my schedule, I sleep better, with most times the RLS is at bay. I reported to the group in November '23 after returning from a cruise, slept well, only to return to the hectic schedule organizing tennis events for our community, the symptoms nearly disappeared. I reduced the 20 mg of methadone to 7.5, gradually, and have stayed there. Timing the medication is important. I am not out of the woods yet, but the trips or holidays I plan, is important to me, as I need to free my head up. I too am careful with my diet, and refrain from sugar at night, dessert, yet I do partake in one glass of chardonnay at 5pm, sipping slowly along with dinner later.

Thanks everyone for your posts. It’s good/not good to know I’m not alone. Last night, back home, I had a combination of insomnia and mild RLS. Back to normal then!

it's simple - you left the RLS at home! Look under the bed!
