OMFG ... I AM SOOO OVER IT

Because of my problem sleeping my doctor put me back on the temaze, and when I ran out he would not give me any more. So I had to do the obvious ... Dr shop. I'm 65, have had RLS for 60 years, together with insomnia, and now they want to stop the sleeping pills! WTF ... why do they insist on making me jump thru hoops to get the help I require. I am sooo over it.

Hi Grany , I find it absolutely horrendous how some gp,s treat rls patients, it is downright torture and I think they should be held accountable for it. They are supposed to be there to help not make you suffer. I’m presuming you can’t see another gp? If not, can you not complain against them. Sending a big hug and best wishes to you, I hope you sort something.

So frustrating! Power trip! I’m so sorry you’re having to find another doctor. They don’t know what to do with us so they do nothing! They lack the balls to do anything that’s truly helpful. I hope you find some sleeping pills soon!!

Zopiclone was most effective for me. I wasn't sleeping at all for around 15 months and it took ages to convince a GP to give me 2 days dose and he only did so because I had a meeting with a 2ndary mental health care Psychologist the week after. The second doctor agreed I should be given the medication long term.

It helped a little at times but didn't help as well. I was just grateful for 1.4 day's good sleep.

Things improved slowly after that, at least in terms of sleep, my mental health problems got a lot worse for about 3 or 4 years.

You could try the non drug route. I sleep a lot better after I reduced my wheat intake, and I've eliminated my rls since I cut out sugar and any food and drink sweetened with sugar. These two things feed microbes it the gut which produce neurotransmitters, which create brain activity and reduce the gut's ability to absorb minerals especially iron which is necessary for normal nerve function.

did you eliminate artificial sweeteners as well?

I never touch artificial sweeteners if I can help it. Seeing how my breathing has improved since I gave up sugar, I'm quite glad that I neve used them, as they are five times more inflammatory than sugar. People think that because they're zero calorie that they'll lose weight, but the inflammation causes water retention, so they make no difference to weight, and constrict the airways so that people find it hard to exercise.

thanks Eryl Ive noticed some improvement as well since I cut back on added sugar, but what about fruits that are relatively high in natural sugars eg fruits?

Afraid that I can't be much help there as I tend to stick to a daily small glass of orange juice at breakfast time and a banana after lunch. (typical aspie habitual eater 😊) I did however pig out slightly on blackberries when they were in season without noticeable effect. (no added sugar)

Hi Grany,

I’m going to try and outline the seriousness of your situation in the form of a light-hearted story. This is not a joke because it could sadly be reality if you get too stressed. I truly apologize in advance if this is taken a flippant because I don’t mean it to be. I’m on your side in your frustration.

Ok, so here’s what you do (BTW, please try not to do this).

Walk (don’t drive) to his house, ring the doorbell, and when he answers (no doubt in a bad mood becuse you’ve disturbed his precious sleep) let yourself in. Instead of making yourself comfortable on the sofa (we can’t do that anyway, can we?) start pacing. When he asks what you’re doing, say something to the effect of “I need a new house to pace in and I’ve decided that yours is it”.

If you do chose to drive to his house, park on the lawn. Put the parking brake on and leave the car running so that the headlights are on. Ring the bell and, when he answers (all pissed because his oh so precious sleep has been disturbed) and asks what a car is doing on his lawn, say something like “that’s the lawn? I thought that was the driveway” (your point here is that you are so sleep deprived to tell the difference)

I’m so sorry that your doctor has chosen to be a ##### and that you have to search for a new one. We are too tired to deal with a search for new doctors, so he is making you suffer in more ways than one. Unacceptable!

Ha ha the dr actually has a newborn. When I left his office I go 'hope bub sleeps all day, so's awake all night. His reaction ... he laughed

in reply toTEAH35

Wow, seriously?! So not cool of him. I remember talking with my landlord at the gym one day during my horrendous Augmentation period back in 2015, saying that instead of having to deal with a newborn being up all night I had to deal with legs being up all night. When he said that that was a bad analogy, I said something like “no it’s not; it sums up my plight”. He couldn’t say anything to that....

I agree that many people including some doctors do not realise how debilitating RLS is...I try not to talk about it as people will say "Oh I get that too Sometimes" Lucky them....when RLS gets a grip there seems to be no escape and we all find different ways/drugs to cope with it. Because I take x2 Mirapex and 5mgs oxycodone I cannot get the prescription in advance as the Oxy is a controlled drug....it is sometimes so stressful thinking that I may not get them in time....I am made to feel like a druggie...desperate..Luckily after two incidents when I had to go to get an emergency prescription after a night without one of the drugs(such a small amount ) my doctors practise pharmacist gave me a few to cover when the prescription was late....

I do also avoid evening activities as the adrenaline exacerbates the RLS...and so it goes on...good luck to us all

x
