this is my 3rd post and I really appreciate all the help! I am going to talk to my Neurologist about augmentation and opioids. But I was wondering if there is a way to increase my iron levels on my own?

Do you know your current iron / ferritin levels ?

It is dangerous to have too much iron .

If they are low, you can take Gentle iron / ferrous bisglycinate every second night with vit c..

The Iron Disorders Institute website has a list of ways to increase iron levels through diet.

Good luck.

I agree with Madlegs1. You need to have your ferritin checked. If you post your ferritin and transferrin saturation percentage (TSAT) back here after you get the results we can advise you on whether you need an iron transfusion and if not on how to take iron, how much and what to avoid.

You need to find a knowledgeable doctor first. Yours refuses to consider any treatment other than Ropinirole. That's negligence, as you are clearly displaying all the signs of augmentation. Getting full panel fasting, morning blood tests, to include serum ferritin is your first step.

But, raising iron may not help. After decades on Ropinirole, the dopamine receptors can be permanently damaged and we need fully functioning dopamine receptors to take up iron in the brain.

Iron infusions dramatically improve 60% of RLS cases, moderately improve 20% but do not help 20%.

Raising serum ferritin can alleviate some cases of augmentation, but not all.

So, get bloods asap. Post results on here.

Then, if percentage saturation is below 48%, you could start taking ferrous bisglycinate last thing at night.

However, your RLS will never improve until you get off Ropinirole.

After 20 years, you will be experiencing drug-induced worsening.

Hopefully you will email or call a good doctor.

Dr Berkowski operates out of Ohio and Florida, Dr Buchfuhrer in California, Dr Ondo in Texas and Dr Winkelman in Massachussetts. I heard that Dr Earley is not taking on new RLS patients, but that may have changed. He's in Baltimore.
