Coagulant advise

I have P. Afib, The Cardiologist wants to put me on Redoxaban but I have a pathological fear of taking blood thinners. At the sign of blood I would have to stop them. And I've read that it's dangerous to stop as it can cause clots and also Ischaemic strokes. Also it causes palpitations which is what I'm trying to avoid.

I have not seen any evidence of people having a good experience on them, just negative and clearly dangerous episodes. I read an article that the FDA in the U.S wants to make the Phyzer manufacturers of Eliquis have a Black Box warning as it causes so many cranial bleeds, and has no antidote. There must be another way surely? They are clearly poison.

You've posted this on the Restless Legs Syndrome Community so you may not get many replies. If you have P. Afib then you might be better on AF Association or Anticoagulation Support.

Hi Art lover - Sorry to hear of your position. I totally understand your fear of anticoagulants. However, I have to take one called rivaroxaban (Xarelto). Just before lock-down I developed a deep vein thrombosis and a few months later had 3 pulmonary emboli so I was put on the blood thinner. At the same time I was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer which had caused the blood clots. I also have to take a daily dose of a chemotherapy drug for the rest of my life to keep the blood cancer under control. A side effect of the chemo drug is development of skin or other cancers.

I have hated taking these drugs but they are keeping me alive and reasonably well for 81 years so I have had to come to terms with it all.

It is hard to have to take such medicines but one has to weigh up the pros and cons. One has also got to remember that the side effects listed sometimes look horrific and very scary but very many people are managing very well on these blood thinners.

I hope this helps you to come to terms with your situation and don't be afraid to discuss it with your GP or specialist as they may be able to help set your mind at rest.

All good wishes

My mother was on Coumadin after lung cancer. And no, she never smoked. She had a vericose vein on her leg for years that protruded. In her 70's it became ulcerated. Being treated at the wound center. One evening while changing the dressing before bed the dressing had stuck. When she removed it, it opened the wound. Instead of phoning 911 she tried stopping the bleeding. It projectile bled. She died from blood loss. I am now on Eliquis for A. Fib. Started me on Coumadin but couldn't get it regulated. I do bruise easily. The cost of Eliquis is outrageous.
