Kratom

I've been taking 2 capsules of kratom nightly for rls and insomnia, and it works wonderfully. However I've read that it can be dangerous. Does anyone here take kratom? Is it a safe product? Sure don't want to stop taking it. All comments welcome. Thank you.

I take Kratom intermittently and find it great for my rls. There are quite a few on here who do. Obviously it is not regulated in the same way as prescription meds. I guess that may be why it is described as dangerous.

I did loads of reading about it when I first took it as I was nervous and what I noticed was that people who posted negatively about it were taking it in very large quantities - much greater than would be required for rls management. Often they were using it to recover from opioid abuse.

I reckon so long as you don’t take too much and you get it from a reputable supplier you should be ok.

Where can you get Kratom tablets? I’ve heard of the powder.. but I’m also in Canada, not sure if it’s legal..

I'm in California. Get it at a smoke shop. I don't want to try and make a tea. Tastes terrible. I don't know it's status in Canada. Good luck coping with this horrible disease.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I get mine at a "Smoke Shop". Comes in a professional looking bottle--So, I'm going for it. I won't take more than 2 capsules. When they stop working I'll have to think of something else.

Hi there

What kind of kratom do you use?

There’s white, red, green.

Have you tried all of them?

Cheers

Most people take a red for rls. Red vein Borneo is a favourite starter. Red Thai can be stronger. I’ve tried them all and don’t notice a huge difference though one of the whites induced some nausea (can’t remember which). They all taste foul.

I've only tried the Red Borneo and Bali as they were the ones recommended for me for sleep and work fine. After reading the post from Involuntarydancer I think I'll try the Red Thai though.

I would take a slightly lower dose of red Thai to start off with. It can be stronger.

I would only take 1 capsule.

I also have read so many post of people taking Kratom that I was interested in trying it, but very timid because it’s not very mainstream. Originally I googled it and mostly just found info/warnings about it and I couldn’t find any reputable looking site selling it. But I got a few tips of good places to order it and finally decided to give it a try. But even at a supposedly reputable site, its seemed a little off. There was no way for me to pay with my credit card. But I could put a bank routing number in and pay that way, or pay with bitcoin! It seemed a little dark-web to me. But since I had found the site on the advice of a few others who had tried it I went ahead and placed the order. It came in the mail last week and seems to be legit.

All the dosing info I’d seen was in grams, but I did not have a scale, so I just did some research that most people were taking anywhere from 1gm – 7gm, and that a 1/4 tsp was about a gram. So I started with ¼ tsp. It did nothing for me. So the next night I did 1/2tsp. I felt a calming feeling come over me but my legs were still kicking. On the 3rd night I did ¾ tsp and it took a while to kick in, but my legs calmed down and I got some sleep. I think I need to up it a little more to 1tsp. I’ve ordered a scale, so when I get it I can better judge how much I am taking.

I bought the red vien borneo as It seems to be the popular strain for RLS. And I put it in orange juice and let it dissolve for about 10min. It’s a little easier to go down that way. And if you follow it with another swig of OJ it makes it more palatable.

Where are you? I'm in northern California and have found a reputable smoke shop where I buy the kratom in capsules. I have no trouble paying with a credit card. But it's still scary since the FDA hasn't approved it. Good luck, I hope it works for you. RLS is such a curse.

I'm in North Carolina. I never thought of trying a smoke shop....heck, I've never even been in a smoke shop. But I know there are a few in town. I'll check it out.

Since you are in California have you tried marijuana?

I hadn't been in one before either. I've tried the edible mj but don't know when or how much to take. I'm going to try it again though since I have some left over. I'm not interested in smoking it. It doesn't last long and the smell is horrible. Lots of people swear by it though. Good luck.

One teaspoon is probably about the minimum needed to get proper relief. I usually need a little more than that. Once I found the correct dose I didn’t tend to need much of an increase - perhaps very slightly as time passed ...

It only lasts about 4 hours for me so I usually need to take a second dose in the middle of the night.

I found it tasted less awful dissolved in grapefruit juice than oj but it’s never going to be something you would take for the benefit of your palate.

Since I take capsules don't know how much it is.

When I first started taking kratom I bought it at a local Smoke shop. Now i buy online as quality and pricing is much better.

There's a good documentary about kratom that just came out on Netflix, titled "Leaf of Faith." Talks about safety with some scientist who have been studying it. Worth watching

Thanks for the info. I'll watch the documentary today. May I ask where online you purchase the kratom? My kratom does seem to lose its effectiveness over time. Do you find that to be true as well? I sure wish we didn't have to take anything! Thanks again. I've learned so much from this site.

Canopy Botanicals, Socal Herbal Remedies, Mystic Island are all good. You're probably developing a tolerance (I started out using a teaspoon and now a year later am up to a tablespoon.) Many ways of helping with this (just google "kratom tolerance." Of course the best way is to take a break. I've finally found something that will help me do that without having nights from h**, it's called mulungu, stops the restless leg. I really believe the answer lies in rehabilitating the gut and staying away from trigger foods. Am getting ready to go on an elimination /gut healing regimen.

Looked up mulungu. It kind of scared me. I'll have to get more info on it.

Just watched "Leaf of Faith". Very good. It's just me but don't feel like I know much more than I did before.
