I take Amlodipine 5mg and Olmersatin 10mg without bad side effects.Maybe a bit of itching, but not enough to stop.

Good luck.

Some medicines that are safe for high blood pressure are propranolol (Inderal, Hemangeol, InnoPran), Isosorbide Mononitrate (Monoket, Imdur) which is not a beta blocker nor calcium channel blocker. And then there are the ace inhibitors such as Zestril (Lisinopril, Qbrelis, Prinivil) and Perindopril (Coversyl). Other possibilities are: Clonidine (Catapres) an Alpha-2-Agonist used to treat high blood pressure which may help RLS and which also treats insomnia, tenex (Guanfacine, Intuniv), prazosin (Minipress) an alpha-adrenergic blocker that is also useful in managing sleep-related problems caused by PTSD and Tadalafil a vasodilator that in one study completely eliminated RLS. Clonidine can actually help RLS. Discuss these with your doctor.

Beta blockers are not good for RLS?

Generally no.

Hmm, interesting - I've been on and off Carvedilol and I'm currently on a low dose, mostly for high heart rate. I haven't noticed any difference.

Which just goes to show we all react differently to medicines. I'm glad it is not bothering you.

Pennygates has just posted that Candesartin for HBP doesn't worsen her RLS.

That's because it is an ARB which I haven't found make RLS worse.

Good luck with your GP! I have just found myself in exactly the same situation but my GP simply would not accept my RLS concerns or that any of the meds offered could be an issue. He stated categorically that any such side effects would be listed and if they aren't then they don't exist. Simply refused to consider it at all. I find most GP attitudes to RLS comptemptuous, they see it as a frivolous concern if not totally imagined. I really think you have to experience this retched thing to appreciate how destructive it can be. Currently trying Lisinopril which I hope will be ok but only been using it 4 days so far. I do appreciate this is more rant than helpful reply, but also very much hope you find what is best for you.

Lisinopril should be fine since it is an ACE inhibitor.

Hi Enery - I have been taking Irbesartan (an ARB) for a few months and it has not caused problems with my RLS. Good Wishes

Hi Jelbea,I see Irbesartan is working for you,I'm really glad, thing is I have been prescribed Irbesartan about 5 weeks ago,I'm going crazy with Tinnitus 24/7,I have been taking Buspirone also to help with anxiety. I feel that I'm almost out the other end of the anxiety but tinnitus is worsening, maybe the both together are the cause, suppose I could try stopping each one for a day or 2 and see what happens,I am aware that tinnitus can be another symptom of anxiety, just wondered if Irbesartan affected you any way like this .I wish you the best.BTW I tried to talk to a doctor this morning but apparently I'm not an emergency case so "call back tomorrow "

Jelbea in reply to Whymelord

Hi again Whymelord. The Irbesartan does not seem to be causing me any problems but I am on the lowest dose. Is the tinnitus a noise which you can hear or is it the beat of your heart? I get the loud beat of my heart in my ears which can be very annoying but I have got used to it. It can be a side effect of some of my medicines. When I stopped being so anxious about it I was able to accept it better and have found ways of lessening the sound. Sorry to hear you could not get to talk to a doctor - I am in exactly the same boat and when I do sometimes the advice is not very good and certainly not pleasantly given. I know they are overworked but that does not give them the excuse to treat people badly. We are always warned on the telephone now to speak to them and it would be a good idea if they took that to heart as well! I do hope you can get some help very soon. In the meantime try not to be too anxious as it certainly makes all the symptoms worse. Best Wishes

Hi Jelbea, thankyou for replying, the noise I'm hearing is like a continuous hissing 24/7,I would have had a bit of noise from time to time but never have I had it day and night.when my gp changed my BP med.from losartan and told me to keep taking Irbesartan as well,I feel that tinnitus has gotten unbearably since I changed the med. I was given Buspirone and zimovane for anxiety so how on earth do I know, its so blooming hard to deal with all this, please God I will find the cause soon.may I wish you good luck and God Bless.

Sorry I meant he said to continue taking Lercanidipine with the Irbesartan

Jelbea in reply to Whymelord

Hello again Whymelord - A few years ago I was started on lercanidipine (Zanidip) and it caused my ankles to swell very badly and I had to stop to almost straight away. It is a calcium channer blocker and as such would probably make your restless legs worse. You should try to talk to the doctor about this. I do get palpitations (very strong sensation of heartbeat in both ears) which can be very annoying and hard to block out especially on lying down to try to sleep. However, I have had it now for so long and I don't get so upset any more as it has not done me any harm. I am sorry I cannot be of any more help to you and I do hope when you get to speak with a GP that he or she will listen to what you are saying and not just hurry you through as is usually the case nowadays. Do you have someone to go with you who will be there to back you up?

I wish you all the best and hope it all gets sorted.
