Bup patch to tablets

Hi all, looking for some advice on how best to swap from weekly 10mg patch to temgesic tablets.

My main query is do I just stop the patch and move to nightly dose?

Will I suffer mini withdrawals not having any medication in my system all day? Have been on the patch for 12 mths. Planning to start on half a 200mcg tablet.

Thank you

As long as the doses are equivalent, then there shouldn't be a problem. There are tables available to tell what the equivalents are, on the internet.

Thanks for reply, the doses won’t be equivalent on purpose as pain Dr is hoping by reducing dosage and only taking medication at night that my awful side effects may lessen.

But he didn’t mention anything else re withdrawal symptoms? On patch i was getting 240 mcgs per 24 hrs and only taking 100 mcgs by tablet.

I suppose I’m concerned about how I will feel during the daytime?

One cannot directly compared patch doses with sublingual doses as the uptake rate and percentage is different. I have been in 5mcg/h patch bup for quite a while and before on Temgesic sublingual pills.

What I would do is indeed start taking the pills after your patch has run its course of 7d. I do suspect though, that half a pills will not be enough. You may need two, maybe more, but difficult to predict. I have experienced that tou can start with half a pill, see how you react, and add another half pill 1/2-1h later, depending on your symptoms.

I did switch to the patch due to continuing mini-withdrawal during the day when I took the pills. However, many people do well on evening/mighttime pills only. Hope it works out for you.

Thanks for reply, did you have rls in daytime or other withdrawal symptoms?

The patch worked quite well and was easy…..put in on and forget but the random napping in evening and then only sleeping for 2 hrs and having to get up was driving me crazy, can’t seem to stay asleep (even if I didn’t nap)

I’ll try this new regime for a couple of weeks, can always switch back

Stay well
