How does restless sleep affect morning blood sugar?

Hi - I notice that in the nights I have problematic sleep - up many times despite good methadone treatment - my blood glucose if over 100, but then is normal after meals during the day. Do any of you have trouble controlling blood sugar after a bad night of struggling to get some zzzzs?

You have the cause and result crossed over, it is not the restlesness causing high blood glucose but the high blood glucose which is causing the restlesness. It's all to do with what you ate thd day before. High. Consumption of carbohydrates will take time to process and the more you consume the longer it takes hence your glucose levels are still high the morning after.

I guess it does depend on blood sugar. Mine is worse when I don’t eat enough during the day.

By "worse" do you mean lower? If you keep it low most of the time you'll train the bpdy to use ketones for energy. If it gets too low the body has a mechanism to make glucose from protein so unless you're doing a lot of physical excersise there's no need to worry. If you're continously feeding yourself with sugar the body will tend to forget all the natural mechanisms.

Very interesting. I have restless nights. I keep a food diary for a while but think it’s not good for me to focus on my health. I find it very difficult to stay off sugary foods. I do 7000 steps a day and am not overweight. Not diabetic.

Female aged 63. RLS had worsened with age but still mild. Ferritin was very low. Took iron tablets for 4 months now 88.

Hi youu are probably the TOFI (thin outside fat inside) like Dr Michel Mosely and thd damage is still being done but is not diagnosable by a GP.Perhaps this video might make you rethink your consumption of sugar. youtu.be/Ku8VaEF82jg

That could well be a reason I sometimes have worse drops in blood sugar than I have on other days. I’m not diabetic though.
