They are the same thing! My PLMD along with my RLS symptoms are getting progressively worse. I’m currently prescribed Baclofen for my PLMD, but I’m getting to over the 60 mg per day of dosage. I’m also taking Oxycodone, as well as generic Valium. I was prescribed Klonopine early on in my treatment, but my Dr told me that Medicare was questioning the rationale for it, so we switched to Temazepam, which turned out to make me sweat profusely at night. I’m going back to my PCP in a couple of weeks. FYI: We exhausted all the so-called traditional medicines for RLS, but I experienced serious Augmentation.

PLMD or PLMS
The article below says ...
"At least 80% of people with restless legs syndrome have PLMD, but the reverse is not true."
I appear to be one of those 80%, and yes it feels like the same thing, your legs have to move and the only real difference is that with PLMD you stay asleep although it may not be very high quality sleep.
Initially I only had PLMD which I didn't realise until various friends and my wife mentioned me "cycling" in my sleep. You'd have to guess that the mechanisms are very closely related (or the same) as they both occur mainly at night, both affect just the legs etc.

I'm afraid I can't comment on your medications other than to say you seem to be taking a mixture including opioids. When you say you exhausted "traditional" medications then I assume you mean dopamine agonists as you mention augmentation. Have you tried pregabalin or gabapentin which are now normally prescribed as first line? Alternatively many members have found buprenorphine one of the better opioids.
