i have posted a few times and have had excellent support from so many of you. I have finally got off pramipexole, over six months. I managed to get pregabalin from my gp, 150 (75mg) a day, but on a monthly prescription… i started on 75 mg at 7.30 and then the other at 10.30. That didnt work. I then tried 150 mg all in one go. No joy. Now i am Not sleeping at all for a week and feel utterly shattered… i know you all know this. Checking out pregablin doses… if i take a high dose, i will use up my prescription. I just dont know what to do… my poor partner is tearing her hair out as i am shouting, cursing all night…. And it doesn’t feel likeRLS as much as just blatant insomnia.maybe the iron levels have knocked off the RLS.. is that possible?

It is possible that improving your ferritin has made your RLS go away. It can certainly improve it, but in April it was only 84 and that wasn't morning fasted. Have you had it checked since then? As far as insomnia safe OTC options for insomnia include: valerian, chamomile, hops, L-tryptophan, 5-HTP, glycine, and GABA. The best prescription medicines are Zolpidem (Ambien) and zopiclone and Lunesta. Zolpidem is advised only for short term or intermittent use but Lunesta is not. Always discuss these with your doctor.
When did you take the last dose of Pramipexole ? Pregabalin takes at least 3 weeks to be effective for RLS. If you only recently stopped Pramipexole, you are still in withdrawal. It lasts weeks, or months.
If 150mg pregabalin isn't helping after 3 weeks, you will have to ask your GP to increase the dose by 25mg every 2 days. The average dose is around 150 -200mg. The max dose is 450mg.
Pregabalin doesn't work for everyone, especially after Pramipexole. Permanent damage may have occurred.
In that case, if raising serum ferritin above 200 doesn't help, you will need to see ask for a low dose opioid.
Medical cannabis may help as well.
I started pre gabolin for another issue and it takes a little time to ramp up. I am also on Trazadone 65 mg at night. That is what is really helping. I am still on one pramexipole. Also magnesium. Plus a sleeping pill. Good luck.
