Hi All. I was on Citalopram for depression, but that made my RLS worse. So Professor Walker at Queens Square suggested Bupropion as a substitute. I have just found out from my Pharmacy that Bupropion is no longer manufactured (so they say). I e-mailed Professor Walker yesterday for another substitute, but I just wondered if anyone here could advise? With thanks, Sally

Any substitute for Bupropion?
I can't imagine that it is no longer manufactured. Check another pharmacy.
The only form of bupropion listed by the British National Formulary is Zyban made by Glaxo Smith Kline, but there's been a problem with possible contamination since late last year:
"On 1st December 2022 GSK placed an immediate hold on the batch release and distribution into EU markets (including the UK and Switzerland) of Zyban (bupropion hydrochloride) 150 mg prolonged release tablets.GSK has been reviewing its manufacturing processes for the potential presence of nitrosamine impurities. GSK conducted testing and the results indicate there is the potential for the presence of nnitroso-bupropion.
GSK has initiated a root cause investigation is determining the best course of action. At this point it’s not possible to provide an indication of timings for the Root Cause Analysis’ completion – this is due to the complexity of the investigation. GSK will provide an update when available."
Zyban was originally used to treat depression, but it has since been found to help people quit smoking and that is mostly what it's prescribed for in the UK.
The alternatives suggested are for smoking - nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) or a nicotine containing vape instead.
I appreciate that doesn't help in your situation! So hopefully Prof Walker will have another suggestion.
I should think Trazodone, but see what the prof says. SueJohnson ?
Yes I agree with ChrisColumbus - ask for trazodone.
