naproxen allergy .

I’ve been taking naproxen for nearly a decade for fibromyalgia but recently I had an allergic reaction to something as my face swelled up and was hot and itchy, thankfully my lips mouth and airways were not effected. My Dr thinks I might have developed an allergic reaction to Naproxen. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Hi there. I took Naproxen for many years. Never experienced such a reaction. Might it have been something else?

The Dr seems pretty sure it’s the naproxen. I haven’t used or eaten anything different.

I wonder did the formulation change in some way.

Was it the same form as you usually get?

Have the excipients changed?

That’s a thought thanks, I’ll try contacting the manufacturer to find out if they’ve changed the formula.

Naproxen has a lot of possible side effects of unknown frequency listed on the BNF, including skin reactions:

bnf.nice.org.uk/drugs/napro...

But why any of these should have occurred after 10 years.....

it’s odd that’s for sure perhaps they have changed the formula like Madlegs1 suggests .🤷🏻‍♀️

NHS: "common side effects of naproxen happen in more than 1 in 100 people.....Rashes- It may help to take an antihistamine, which you can buy from a pharmacy. Check with the pharmacist to see what type is suitable for you."

NHS: "In rare cases, it's possible to have a serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to naproxen."
