Tappering off Oxy and help with Insomnia

I am trying to wean myself off percocet and just stay on Horizant 1200 mg and also use medical marihuana as needed for RLS. Percocet is being used for augmentation from being on Pramipexole for 10 years and for some back pain. I have been on Percocet 10 mg nightly for 8 months and want to start weaning off now. Everytime I try to taper down I get severe tremors in my head and upper body. I also suffer from insomnia. Does anyone have experience on tapering off oxycodone and recommendations of medications to help with insomnia. I have tired with no luck, (ambien, tramadol, melatonin, benadryl, xanax, and ativan).

Ambien has both 5 mg and 10 mg tablets. If you only tried the 5 mg ones you might want to try the 10 mg ones. There is clonazepam although it can cause next day sleepiness. Lunesta is the only one recommended for long term use. It is a non-benzodiazepine.

One of the main thing that stops people falling aslees is eating too late inthe evening so that the are still digesting their meal when they go to bed. In order to fall asleep the core body temperature must fall and it can't fall whilst digestion is still taking place. Not having the bedroom temperature high or having too many blanets or duvets on the bed can help as well.

If the mind can't slow down I use two herbal remedies, valerian, which is the main ingredient in Kalms, is good and gives a restful sleep unlike Kalms which helps you sleep but you do not wake rested. The other one I take is ashwaganda which helps to lower the cortisol in the blaaod and helps to lower blood pressure.

I have been taking percocet for well over 20 years. I take 4 pills (5mg) in the evening. I cut them in half and take half every hour starting around 4 or 5 in the late afternoon. I find that it really helps as I've tried so many other medications which eventually stopped being effective. I tried horizant and it didn't do anything for my RLS. I'm wondering why you want to get off percocet? Just curious. The only problem I have with percocet is that it makes my head itch toward later in the evening. Other than that is works for me and I've tried several of the other medications for RLS.
