listening to music has transformed my sleep

I’ve suffered terribly from restless leg syndrome since I was a child. Only Having it diagnosed later in life.

My RLS definitely comes and goes but when it’s at it’s peak it keeps me up in the night in levels of discomfort only a fellow RLS sufferer can understand.

Recently I purchased some wireless earphones and during one particularly difficult night I decided to listen to some calming music to help and I woke up the next morning having slept quite peacefully for the rest of the night.

Since then whenever I wake up with symptoms or the fear of symptoms I turn to music and it’s been a bit of a break through.

I am positive part of my RLS is psychosomatic. I’m wondering if the music distracts my brain, stopping me stressing about it and I can fall back to sleep.

Would be interested in knowing if this helps other people.

Definitely music is a great help to me. It never got rid of full blown attacks, but does help with mild tickles.

I enjoy " Insight Timer" for its guided meditations. I also have Leonard Cohen, Deva Primal and various Buddhist chanting.

All the best.

That's great that you have found something that works for you. Have you had your ferritin checked? Improving it to 100 or more helps 60% of people with RLS and in some cases completely relieves their symptoms.

I’ve had my bloods checked and they all came back normal

Doctors will tell you they are normal, because that is for people without RLS. Ask for your ferritin and transferrin saturation (TSAT) figures. If you get them and post them here I can advise you what to do.

Music increases the dopamine in the brain.

Yes .... have been doing this for a couple of years now ... amazing how one can go to sleep with music blaring in ears - but it does help. Well done.

Same here. Meditation and music helped me too for many years. Definitely helps with increasing dopamine.
