Thanks for listening

I just had a really bad night. Hardly slept. Company is visiting for a few days and I’m so tired from not sleeping. It first started in my right leg, and then in my left leg and then upper arms. I can’t even try to get a little more sleep because I can’t even sit down. I have to be on my feet and I have to walk. So frustrating! Thanks for listening. Only those people with RLS truly understand 🙁

The sleep deprivation is the worst. I don’t know what to say except I can commiserate.

That is misery incarnate. I really sympathize. I find stress exacerbates my rls. Maybe you are a bit tense with having to cope with visitors and that is making it worse. Go easy on yourself. I hope you have a better night tonight.

Have you tried a cup of coffee in the middle of the night? There are two recent threads in which lots of people posted that this helps them. Also consider solpadeine or other over the counter pain relief containing codeine. Have you tried a magnesium rub on your legs? Some people find this very helpful. Also running a cold shower on them for a few minutes. People also post that spending 15 mins or so on a very diverting activity (such as computer game - reading or tv is not sufficient) can afford about 2 hours of relief.

Thanks for your suggestions. Is the magnesium like an oil or cream that you rub on the legs? I really appreciate your taking time to text

Dakota

Dakota, I derive so much comfort and support myself from this forum - I am happy if I can give something back so thanks for your comments. You can buy magnesium oils and creams in pharmacy but I make my own by dissolving Epsom salts in water (much cheaper). Buy the Epsom salts in a pharmacy and find the proportions online. From memory it is one part salts to one part water but prob best to check.

I had the same problem last night. I exercised, had hot showers, hot milk, walked up and down our hall all to no avail and it was useless trying to get back into bed because my arms wouldn't stop moving ...I still had the urge to move but also had jerking. I really think RLS in your arms and hands is the worst. I All this happened because I am trying to reduce my Neupro patch and cutting it smaller and smaller. You are right in saying that only those with RLS truly understand. I feel really sorry for you but this site will help you.

Have you tried Kratom? It is about the only thing that helps me.

Dakota13 profile image
Dakota13 in reply toLanaCSR

I’ve never heard of it. Is it over the counter?

LanaCSR profile image
LanaCSR in reply toDakota13

I have only been able to find it online. Do a Google search for it or if you want more info about others' experiences using it, do a search for Kratom in here. Lots of people have had good success using Kratom to treat RLS. Good luck!!

I second kratom. It's been the one thing that makes me able to sleep and even reduce my dopamine agonist (like Mirapex) at the same time. It's legal where I live and I've been on it for 4 months now. Tastes horrible but so worth it.

I did Google Kratom and it sounds good but I don't know where to purchase it..I couldn't find it on the post.

I get mine from KratomUSA...online. But I have seen multiple places come up when I do a search for kratom online. You just go into their site and pick the product you want to buy, etc. Not sure if I answered your question.

Next time, try something other than milk. The lactose in it is a form of sugar, which could be making your rls worse.

Thanks ERYL😊

That is funny Eryl because it usually helps me. It actually has certain properties that help you sleep. Just goes to show that we are all different.

Yes, the a1 form of the casein protein in regular milk fits a morphine receptor it the brain, so many find it soothing. That's why people get almost addicted to cheese. It just makes me dopey while I'm awake which means that I don't tire myself so much and hence don't sleep so well, and a lot, as in cheese ruins my digestion. I stick to the commercial 'a2 milk', which is free of the a1 form, and cheese has caused me so much discomfort that I now gag at the taste.

I wonder if many people get it in their arms (and thighs) like we do. I so sympathize with you. One thing that helps me is getting into a warm/hot jacuzzi when I’m about to cry from the symptoms and frustration, However when I get out the symptoms come back. But it’s worth it for the temporary relief. Good luck to you

I would try poison if it would help. I am taking 5mg Targin and 75mg Lyrica for pain from a totally train wreck of a total hip replacement. I am also taking less than a 1/4 of a 2mg Neupro patch as I am trying to get off a dopamine agonist. 1mg Neupro patches are unprocurable in Australia, I guess because the 1mg patch for RLS is not recognized as anything of importance. I would love some of these doctors to have the nights that some of us are experincing.

I came off the 2 mg Neupro patch earlier this year. It took 4 months and I needed opioids to help. The process was ghastly but I feel so much better now.

I am now on 150 mg of Lyrica and 100 mg of extended release Tramadol. This gets me through the evening and till about 3 am. I then take another 50mg of Lyrica and 50 mg of Tramadol. This has been working ok for 3 months.

I really sympathize with your exhaustion but you will get through it.

I have noted your dosage and May double my dosage of Lyrica tonight even though I have gained weight...that is why I stopped it two years ago when I was prescribed it.

macewan13 profile image
macewan13 in reply toSpudellen

I also gained weight the last time I tried it. However, this time I haven’t, although I am finding it difficult to lose the few kilos that I need to lose.

macewan13 profile image
macewan13 in reply toSpudellen

Sorry, I should have said...... I was on half the dose 3 months ago when I saw my neurologist. It wasn’t doing anything for me. She doubled the dose, saying that in America they recommend higher doses than the one I was originally on.

I’m with you. That’s the only way they would get it.

I will second the magnesium oil but it only works for me once the restless legs have started not as a preventative measure. Just spray it on the affected areas and rub in well. I use about 10 sprays overall. I get mine from Holland and Barrett but will try making my own when it runs out. May cause stinging and tingling at first but your body gets used to it.
