Iron Infusion: Timing for relief?

Today I had the first of 3 iron infusions I am scheduled to receive at scheduled intervals. If these infusions provide me with RLS relief, how long will it take for that to happen?

Good luck. Please keep us updated

It may be almost immediately or it can take up to 2 months. It's great that you were able to get it.

It could take a couple days. I noticed it within a week. The benefits kept coming for months. 6-8 months. What my doctor always says, and I hate it. "These things take time." Good luck. A infusion was the best thing ever for my RLS. I just wish I would have done it 10 years sooner.

Just curious, when you had your first iron infusion do u remember your ferritin and saturation levels ?

I don’t remember the saturation number but I do remember my ferritin was 70.

If you are in the US, what state is your doctor in ? I’m just curious 🤨

Maryland - At John Hopkins. If you look up Dr. Christopher Earley you will see his video presentation on iron infusions. That’s who I see.

Oh yeah they don’t expect new patients or at least out of state… I’m in New York but my doctor is an RLS expert but my ferritin was 172 last time and saturation was fine.. I wish I could get an iron in fusion let us know how everything goes

Why do you think you need an iron infusion? Yours is well over 100.

Well when I first got my ferritin checked a few years ago it was 36 so I think it fluctuates. Also I am just curious to see if it would help me even a little bit my RLS is destroying my life.. sometimes getting ferritin to 200 or even 300 can help but iron supplements won’t get it there an infusion would.. do u like dr Earley at John Hopkins I couldn’t get an appt with him

I get mine checked once a year. When I got my first infusion it went up from 70 to 650. Then each year it went down to 425, then 300+, then 225….I am not sure it fluctuates as much as you think it may be doing in a short time period. Have it checked again.

I do like Dr. Earley but I know he only takes patients from Maryland.

Watch his videos on iron infusions and get tested again. Then speak to your doctor about it.

Mine was a "normal" 30. Sorry I didn't get a TSP.

I’m having an infusion August 24. My doctor (Dr. Earley at Hopkins) said it could take 6-8 weeks to work.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like I need to be patient with the process.

Hi guys, on a similar subject to K2D2, I’m about to start a series of 5 iron injections. I’m wondering what interval to leave between these injections, my doctor is in favour of spacing them out, is this a good idea? I’d have thought maybe weekly or fortnightly might be better. Also how long will the injections take to ‘kick’ in? When should I check my ferritin levels again? Hopeful.
