Having an iron infusion in two days. How long will it take to know if it provides RLS relief?

It may take up to 2 months although some have seen results much sooner.

Sorry to say it did not make any difference for me. I had the infusion in Yeovil, they seem to have a special wing devoted to infusions for RLS. It took about 20 minutes quite painless and no side effects. I still have RLS, now dealt with using 300mg pregabalin and 1 mg neupro patch this combination seems to work well, but I would like to get off the neupro patch.

Try cutting the neupro patch in quarters and reducing it by 1/4 every few weeks.

Hello Sue, tried that but I do not seem to be able to get below 1mg, I am also on 300mg Pregabalin, basically I am free of symptoms. I take the pregabalin before bed and change the patch in the morning. Regards, Frank

You probably need a low dose opioid temporarily to help you get off it.

I understand that iron infusions are effective in about 60% of RLS sufferers, so I’m hoping for the best.

Can you tell me more how you got the infusion in Yeovil? What was your ferritin and how long were the waiting times?

Hello Vikkk, I self referred to the hospital at Yeovil, they have a separate wing for infusions, it is the Kingston wing. It only took a couple of weeks to get it arranged and visit, all quick and easy. cost about £200 at least ten years ago, Regards,Frank

Hi, for me it took between 1 to 2 months to notice the effects of iron infusion and these effects lasted for about 6 months. Good luck!

Is your RLS under control?

Yes, I take 0,27mg of Pramipexole 2 hours before bed and I’m waiting to get a new iron infusion as the iron level (ferritin) has dropped and I’m starting to have symptoms earlier in the day

Have you considered coming off pramipexole and switching to gabapentin since up to 70% of people on it will eventually suffer augmentation which believe me you don't want.

Yes, I already tried Gabapentin but had side effects like halucinations, putting myself in danger. In fact this was the 1st treatment I tried
