Feet ????

Ok this is just plain strange. When I get the onset of the RLS episodes I feel like I can’t get my shoes and socks off fast enough. It’s not always been like this, just recent. Anyone else get that feeling?

No-- you are possibly unique?

Everyone seems to experience rls in a different manner.

It's quite fascinating to see how people experience it and what sets it off for them.

If you stamp your feet- like in a tantrum - would it help?

Just asking for a friend 😝

I don’t know really feel like stomping but more like it some sort of nerve reaction, and I have to get the shoes off, get up and walk around, almost like a pressure release.. I still feel the RLS in my right leg. I still refer to it all as “leg migraines”. I wonder if RLS is vascular related? My mother had it which I didn’t know until I saw her legs moving when she was in the hospital once. She had leg vascular issues and died of a brain aneurysm.

My rls is in my feet ( usually ) .... my arms suffer too.

It starts usually in my left foot and then the right foot joins in... absolutely horrible.

Yes, absolutely the same for me. But I’ve experienced this for as long as I’ve had RLS, which is thirty years. I’ve sat through countless movies, theatre productions etc., surreptitiously taking off shoes and socks and then trying to get them back on before lights come back up!

I can’t help thinking it might be related to nerve issues or damage. Weird feelings in your feet (paraesthesia) can be due to nerve problems e.g. spine and disc issues which impact the nerves to the lower body (like sciatica). There is a well known link between RLS and nerve damage (neuropathy) i.e. if you have nerve damage you have a higher risk of secondary RLS. Personally I had back issues which left me with permanent sensations in the feet and the left is worse than the right and I’m sure my RLS got a lot worse at the time. However I don’t get actual RLS sensations in the feet, I get them in the legs and just have to move.

I’ve been experiencing neuropathy in my feet as well, and it also gives me a strange tightness and stiffening. . XRay didn’t show arthritis, and I’m not diabetic. The neurologist said my leg muscles were ok, but as she said the nerve signals to my feet weren’t as strong. She referred me to a neurology specialist. So when I go I will mention the RLS.

I too have neuropathy and am not diabetic. In my case, the cause seems to a systemic case of Rheumatoid arthritis. This has led to Charcot foot, terrible ulcers and infections. Have been in total contact casting bilaterally for two years, while waiting for the Covid surgical backlog to clear up. Unfortunately, I am losing my left foot to this condition. If you have neuropathy check your feet every day, wear good supportive shoes with socks, and never go barefoot.

I myself suffer of RLS about 30 years as well, and also have a back problem, that just appeared 3 years ago, ‘arthrosis’, much later than than the RLS.

Usually after a walk, or in the evening my feet start to feel hot, so most of the rest of the day I walk around barefoot indoors. Standing on a cool pad helps. "Can't get my shoes and socks off fast enough" is also my experience and the phrase really resonated with me.

Yes I have to do the same and if I’m the car I have to have the window open wide as I feel so hot and it comes on so rapidly

Yes, I get this too. As soon as I come in, or usually in the evening, I have to take my shoes or slippers off immediately and walk about on the cold tiles in my hall. I haven't worn socks, winter or summer, for the past five years. I haven't seen my GP about it - getting him to fully understand about RLS is enough of a struggle so I just put up with the feet thing. I don't wear boots or anything that could be a struggle to get out of as speed to free the feet is of the essence! I'm sorry you're experiencing this horrid symptom but if it has arrived recently perhaps it will disappear equally quickly.

I hate wearing shoes and socks. It’s like my feet are smothering. They easily feel too hot. I feel the best when my feet are cold, no matter what the weather is like.

Right there with you. Ever since childhood my piggies needed to run free. For me it's more of a constricting or claustrophobic feeling. Shoes, socks and even pants come off at every opportunity. Gloves and mittens have the same effect on my hands and arms.
